There is a user in our office that is experiencing an annoying lag while typing in Word. She'll type a full sentence and it will take a couple of seconds for Word to catch up to her. I've also noticed this to a lesser degree on my system. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks

  • 3. Interesting behavior from Word 2007
I have Windows XP SP2 pro loaded. I loaded Office 2007 along with Visual Studio. This is a very clean install, not much else there. If I go into Explorer after launching any office 2007 product and closing that office product, and then I double click on a document to open, it won't launch for either 30 seconds or more, not at all, or until I launch Word by itself. Is there anything obvious, or subtle :), I should check for? Also, if I go into Outlook and I have it open and then start a web browser, if I open multiple windows by clicking on links, after about 3, it won't open anymore. If I have Outlook closed, it works fine. Something's rotten in Denmark. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. PS: If I uninstall Office 2007, everything is fine.

It takes long to open/close word 2000

Hello Everyone

I am using Word 2000 running on Windows XP pro SP2. It takes 40 seconds to
open or close Word document. In Windows 2000 pro, it takes only 3 or 4
seconds. Yet, both systems are running the same Anti-Virus. My AV on XP
does not have the option such as scanning Word when it opens for instance. I
tried to disable all the options available to no avail. I noticed one
difference between Word running on my Windows 2000 pro and Word running on
my XP. When I open Word on my XP, it creates like a shadow with this "~$w"
preceding the name of the document. Word in Windows 2000 pro does not do
this. Maybe this is the source of the problem?

Is there anything I should do to make it open/close as in Windows 2000 pro ?

Thanks for any help.

Sean

All Word versions create an "owner" file (~$<filename>.doc) in the document
folder when you create or open a document; see D: How Word for Windows
Uses Temporary Filesat http://www.**--****.com/

If you are running Norton Corporate Edition and ever had Norton AntiVirus
installed on the problem machine, then the
DLL for the Office Plug-in could still be registered.

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u <\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details. It does
not include information on Norton CE but it will contain additional
details on the unregister command if you need them:

Thanks Suzanne.

In Windows 2000 pro the (~$<filename>.doc) does not appear when the document
is opened. In Windows XP, it does. If I open 10 Word documents, 10 ~$
shadow documents appear on my desktop which becomes full of them. This does
not happen in W2k.

Regards

Sean

If you're saving documents on the desktop (not ever a very good idea), then
you'll see owner files on the desktop.

2.Takes longer to open Word Template Developed in Word 2000 in Word

I developed a Word template in Word 2000. When I open it in the newer
version of Word (e.g. Word 2002 or 2003), sometimes it would not open.
Sometimes it would open but takes forever to ope. Saved the template in the
newer Word version but still has the same problem.

What's causing this behavior and how could I prevent it from happening if I
develop another template.

Thanks for your help.

3.Word takes long time to open/close

XP pro/Word 2000

It takes 40 seconds to either open or close Word
document. But in Windows 2000 pro, it takes no more than
3 or 4 seconds. Both systmes are running the same Anti-
Virus.

Thanks

4.Word 2000 takes a long time to open Word X file

Word X template is used to create a new simple text only Word
document. The new Word document is opened in Word 2000 under Windows
2000. It takes a long time to open and at the bottom of the screen
there is some blurb about virus scan being requested. I have Norton AV
2004 on the Windows 2000 machine, but the wierd thing is that as soon
as I click anywhere outside Word 2000 so that it loses focus and then
immediately click back on Word 2000 the slow document has now opened.
I do not have this problem with Word documents created in Word 2000
and viewed in Word 2000. Any ideas about what is in the Word X created
document that is slowing things down?

Of course, the Word X created document opens quickly in Word X.

Thanks,

Michael

5.Winword 2000 takes long time to open any document

When I doubleclick on a word document, Winword starts up, but then it takes
up to 5 minutes to actually open the document. None of the other Office
suite applications have this problem.

This is a full Office2000 install on XP pro. All updates (os and office)
have been installed) Normal.dot has been deleted and recreated.

Any suggestions?
