How do I set default opening files to be details alphabetical

  • 1. Flickering Cursor
I've just upgraded to Word 2007 and am having problems with a flickering cursor. On some occasions after I start Word, I get a cursor that flickers very quickly between the pointer and the process circle. The flickering does not interfere with the functioning of the cursor, and I do not get the flickering consistently (this, in fact, tends to occur after a resume from hibernate). I know that this may occasionally happen when Word has too many functions going on, but this is simply an empty new document. Moreover, changing to other views doesn't make any difference. I suspect the problem may be due to the touchpad (I use a Sony Vaio) (doubleclicking on the touchpad slows the flickering to one-second flickers, while doubleclicking the actual touchpad buttons does nothing). Still, I suspect the problem lies with Word, not just the touchpad, since the flickering cursor does not happen with other applications open at that time. Any ideas?

I am using Word 2007 on XP and when I exit from Word the winword.exe process remains open. I don't have any other office application open. The winword.exe process does not use any CPU but is about 50000k. When I attempt to turn off the computer I am told that the winWord application has not terminated. How can I fix this error? Any assistance VERY GRATEFULLY received. Peter Evans

How do I set default opening files to be details alphabetical

Postby Sm9zaSBSZXlub2xkcw » Thu, 23 Jun 2005 20:50:03 GMT

My indexing has changed since installing Microsoft Search Desktop. Now when
I try to open a word document, it is never by "detail" and "alphabetical"
order. How do I set this as a default again?

Go to File, Open and select 'Detail' View (second tool from the right hand
end), then click on the Name column to sort in alphabetical order. Word
should remember this next time.

Unfortunately not. It used to remember it before installing this MSN
Desktop browser. It must be to do with the Search Desktop installation. My
colleague removed the desktop and it still won't put things back to normal.
So what happens if it doesn't remember it next time around?

I haven't installed MSN Desktop Search so it 'may' be the cause. Try the MSN
Newsgroup and see if they have any information on this.

3.File Open / View / Details Set as Default

When I OPEN a file, I would like my VIEWS to always be set as DETAILS. How
can I set this to be the default view?

I have gone to Windows Explorer Tools | Folder Options and set the folders
to be like the one shown (details) but when I go back into Word 2007 the old
yucky view is still there. Also, I need the the title of the document column
to be wider, which I can do by dragging it, but I want to set it wider as a
default, and it switches back to the yucky view as soon as I close the open
dialogue box.

This was posted previously but wasn't answered. Anybody???
