Have Windows 98, Office 2000. Appears I have macro virus. Cannot open Word, Excel or Powerpoint, or Norton AntiVirus. When attempting to open documents, get error message: "Normal.dot still infected, do you want to delete?" Have deleted several times, have changed name to Normal.old, have tried to open documents and select Macro from Tools menu, but cannot "delete" from Macro menu. Have tried everything. Have downloaded several virus tool removals from online Norton AntiVirus. What else can I do?

Charles, are you attempting to link to a document, or web address? Does the hyperlink appear active after you insert it (e.g., get the pointy finger when you go to click it)...not the bad one.... Have you tried right-clicking the hyperlink and editing. Browse for documents, or copy and paste links. jesse >-----Original Message----- >I have been trying to understand why a hypertext link >won't work in the Word document. It always says page >unfound in the browser. I have checked the address and >hyperlink in the document and both are good. >. >

Word 2002 takes LONG time to open.

Postby RWxhaW5lOTEw » Fri, 07 Sep 2007 00:56:00 GMT

I have Word 2002 that came on a disk with MS Works. It was working fine.
Recently, when trying to open Word, it takes a long time for it to open,
usually will show the white and blue "word" box on the screen until it opens,
which can range from 10-30 minutes. I have tried downloads/updates, tried
uninstalling and then re-installing, but nothing seems to work. Any
suggestions?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you, Elaine

1.Word 2002 takes long time to open Word document with missing templ

I have many documents that were created in previous version of Word 2002 in
the network, and they were attached to a template that has been moved or no
longer exists in the previous server.

They are now being opened VERY slowly in word 2002 (takes 2-3 minutes for
few pages document). There is nothing very unique about these documents, they
do have some tables in them. It is very basic.

Is there any fix or patch which can solve this problem without modifying the
Word documents? Any help would be appreciated.

2.Microsoft Word 2002 takes a long time to start

9-Apr-07

Microsoft Word 2002 takes a long time to start (about 20 sec.). The
application is on both my start menu and the desktop.

Is this the application's normal behavior and how would I shorten Word's
start?

Thank you,

3.word 2002 font screen takes a long time to appear

In an earlier post I reported that Word 2002 was not responding when I did
Format/Font or Modified a Style. To my amazement, the Font screen comes up
but after what I'd consider an very long time (30 seconds plus). I was
prematurely closing the font screen assuming it stopped responding. What
would Word be looking for that initial request that is making take so long?
However, once it comes up it appears very quickly from that point on for
that session of Word. When I reopen Word that first font screen takes a
long time. I just upgraded to 2002 from Word 97 on my XP laptop. Is this
normal behavior for Word 2002 and XP?

One other question. On my Windows 98 machine all the font icons were TT,
with the XP machine some fonts show TT but most have an O icon but still
has the .ttf file extension. COuld someone tell me what the O stands for?

TIA

4.Deleting block of text takes a long, long, LONG time

When I try to delete selected (highlighted) text, nothing seems to happen for
a very long time. Word 2007 seems to just sit and think, and does nothing for
30s to a minute. For very short pieces of text (several characters) it goes
faster, for medium sized (1 page), the delay is unnaceptable.

This happens regardless of whether I use Backspace, Delete, Ctrl+X, or just
type over selected text.

It's a very big issue when using any macros that rely on repeatedly
pasting/deleting blocks of text, such as any of the translation tools that
integrate with Word via macros (Trados, Logoport).

I'm using Word 2007 SP2 (and a computer fast enough to run most new games,
so you'd think deleting 600 words would not be a problem...)

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

5.Word 2000 takes a long time to open Word X file

Word X template is used to create a new simple text only Word
document. The new Word document is opened in Word 2000 under Windows
2000. It takes a long time to open and at the bottom of the screen
there is some blurb about virus scan being requested. I have Norton AV
2004 on the Windows 2000 machine, but the wierd thing is that as soon
as I click anywhere outside Word 2000 so that it loses focus and then
immediately click back on Word 2000 the slow document has now opened.
I do not have this problem with Word documents created in Word 2000
and viewed in Word 2000. Any ideas about what is in the Word X created
document that is slowing things down?

Of course, the Word X created document opens quickly in Word X.

Thanks,

Michael
