  • 3. rescue.asd
Twice now Word 2007 failed to write to a networked drive, and offered to save the file as "rescue.asd". But when I do so and close/reopen Word and ask it to open rescue.asd, it declares that .asd is not a valid extension. Renaming it to .docx and opening results in a corrupt file message. What good are .asd files if Word won't recover them? -- Regards, Dean

Word 2003 documents, saved on different network share, are defaulting to read only, in error. (using windows XP Pro SP2. Server using Windows 2003 SP1. Save As malfunction

Postby robert kessel » Wed, 13 Aug 2003 12:06:33 GMT

Save As on an existing document causes the MS word
document name icon on the task bar to pulsate and document
freezes. Right clicking on icon opens window for selecting
location to save document and enables document saving to
proceed. How do I rectify this problem?

This problem is probably caused by a conflict with the Norton Office
Plug-in. See "WD2002: Title Bars Flash, Word Becomes Unresponsive, or Word
Cannot Close [KB 812075]" at http://www.**--****.com/

Hi Robert,

The flashing task indicates Word is waiting for a response from you.
The Save As dialog box is opening behind the Word application window
and you don't see it. The next time it happens minimize the Word
application window and see if this is the case.

If so the problem is caused by one of two issues:

If you are using Norton then try disabling the "Office Plug-in" option
since it is known to cause dialog boxes to appear behind the
application window.
In Norton go to "Options" and then select "Miscellaneous" and disable
the Office Plug-in option.

If you are starting Word using the Quick Launch bar then this is a
known bug and it has been corrected in the Office XP SP2 patch. Here
is an article that contains information on obtaining the latest Office
XP updates:

1."Save as " malfunction in 2002 Office xp

I'm running windows 2000. Attempts to use the "save-as"
causes the bars to blink & the program to lock up. The
word find and the clipboard are also malfunctioning. The
save-as function on other programs (cad) work fine.

2."save as" malfunction

In Word 2002...when I choose save as and open a new folder to place document
in I automatically loose the original name of the document which is replaced
by the name of any document I pass my cursor over.

3.Microsoft Office "Save In" box malfunction

When I'm using any of the Microsoft Office applications and I go to the Save
As dialog box and try to click the drop down arrow for "Save In" to change to
a different folder, the hour glass icon comes on and I'm stalled at this
point. Opening the Task Manager window shows the name of the document listed
twice and in each line "Not Responding". I've tried updating Office (I'm
completely up-to-date), and I've run the Detect and Repair feature--neither
has helped. Any suggestions?

4."Auto Recovery Save" Malfunction

As usual, I frequently saved the file. While moving around
some MS word graphics, Word started working very slowly. I
closed the files, then closed the program, then powered
down and automatically restarted. When I went back to Word
to open the file, I couldn't find it??? Then found an
Autorecovery save in the "Recent documents" on the start
menu. I click on the icon and get the following message.

"The drive or network connection that the
shortcut 'Autorecovery save of my file name.lnk' refers to
is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly
inserted or the file network is available."

I have unsuccessfully tried searching several times for
the .asd file, for files with similar names, but couldn't
find it even in the "hidden files." Where should I look
for the missing file? Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks.
