When I try to convert a word file to rtf, the system hangs and I am unable to quit Word. There is a known bug in Word that prevents conversion to rtf if the file was created in Word 97 or earlier version and the file has traked changes turned on, but this is notth ecase with me. I was able to convert files as recent as a few days ago, but now the system hangs. Any suggestions?
  • 2. RTF document and tags
Hi, I would like to know if there is a way to tag some areas of a RTF document? I want to publish a RTF file where the user has to enter ratings and comments on different items in the document. I would like then to be able to parse the updated RTF document, extract the tagged information, and map the tag names to some object IDs to correctly update a database. Is it possible to do something like that with an RTF file? Can I also "hide" some context id somewhere in the same RTF file? Thanks in advance for your time! Patrick Lardin

Help me please, I'm trying to view an original MS Works 6.0 document that was created on a computer running Windows XP (Home Edition) Operating System--within MS WOrd 2000 on a computer using Windows 2000 O/S. (Do the different Operating Systems make a difference?) If so, what are my options?.. Do i really have to type over the entire document---it's over 40 pages long! Tried to open the document in MS Word 2000---only saw some gibberish, followed by page breaks. Searched Microsoft Knowledge Base, Support & Troubleshooting---no real help Can someone offer some REAL ASSISTANCE?! Thanks in advance, Sean.

Can't convert Works 4.5 to Office 2003

Postby Wyatt Taylor » Wed, 21 Apr 2004 04:53:26 GMT

I have a new system with Office 2003 (11.5406.5606) and
cannot open Works 4.5 files successfully.

I've installed the Office Resource Kit and ran the
converter install, and also downloaded the Wk2RTF.exe file.

When I open a file, whether document or spreadsheet, I
just get junk. There is some readable clear text but the
formatting is lost and just unusable.

I searched all NG's and see others asking the same
question over and over - but with no good responses. What
is the answer?

Hi Wyatt,

The Works WordProcessor v4 converter should still be available from
    http://www.**--****.com/
Turn on [x] Confirm Conversion at open in Word's Tools=>Options=>General
after placing the .cnv file to have Word become aware of it when you
first open a Works WordProcessor file through File=>Open in Word.

The spreadsheets would need a 3rd party converter.

4.How to convert Office Mobile Word docx files to RTF using Activesync 4.5

I've decided to experiment with using Activesync 4.5.0 (build 5096) to send
my Word mobile documents from my HTC TyTN II (Windows Mobile 6 device) to my
desktop in rtf format. The problem is that AS 4.5 doesn't list docx files as
a file type it can convert. Instead something called 'Pocket Word Document'
with a psw extension is the 'word' format listed.

Can someone please advise how this works. TIA.
