  • 1. Print Layout View
When I opened Word 2002 today I now see two grey "right angled Header markers" (I also see two footer markers also). Why have they suddenly appeared and how can I remove them from view as there doesn't seem to be an "Option" to turn them on and off. Any advice would be much appreciated as it's bugging the hell out of me! I have definitely not seen these before.
  • 2. Missing Drop-Down Menu in Word X
My Tools drop-down is missing from the menu bar. I have installed Office X 10.1.5 Update Log. I have removed the Word Settings (10) file. Anyone have another idea? thanks Jim
  • 3. Very frustrated!! Alt + Click and annoying Research panel!!
I've been trying to fix this for the last 15 minutes and I couldn't find a way to get rid of this problem. I got Word 2003 and this has been killing me. I work with tables a lot and I change the cells' height and length all the time by using the Alt button along with the mouse (and dragging it to where I want). That way you have full control of the height or length. But in this newer version of Office, Microsoft has added a "Research" feature and basically you can use it to research anything that might be on the document with a whole bunch of different dictionaries or whatever's installed on your computer. The problem is that Microsoft has made a shortcut for this command, and the shortcut for it is Alt + Click. So anytime I'm changing the size of the cells in a table, this annoying panel shows up on the right side of the screen. I tried to get rid of it by changing the keyboard shortcuts under the keyboard options on the Customize feature or whatever it's called, and there, Research had another shortcut, Alt + R, which I got rid of, and there is no way to make anything work with an Alt + Click or at least try to do it under Research so that I can delete the shortcut and make it NOT work. That's pretty much it. How can I fix this??? I work with tables all the time and it's driving me crazy. Any help/comments/suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Ivan
  • 4. Word - Insert Address Function / Button
Is there anyway to change the fields returned by this function. It leaves off the salutation and company name - but includes the country - a small anoyance
  • 5. "Open" menu balloon
In the "Open" menus, as my cursor hovers over the filenames while I look for the one I want, this square balloon pops up telling me the file type, author, date modified and size. This is utterly useless information and only blocks my view of what I am trying to look for. What's the setting so this never pops up again? (But I do not want to kill other balloons elsewhere, such as in the taskbar or various toolbars)

See http://www.**--****.com/
some light on what you are doing wrong. Note that by editing the registry to
remove standard entries, you can lose the ability to add to the bar via
Word. Some utilities that edit the registry, such as TweakUI may affect the
registry keys involved.

You can add as many as you like. How many you can *display* depends on
whether or not you have Large Icons or Small Icons selected and how large
you have made the Open and Save dialogs. For example, I have 13 places
displayed on my Places Bar.

The extras up to 256 are revealed via the up and down arrows that appear at
the ends of the Places Bar if you add more than will fit in the viewable
space. However, this rather defeats the object of instant access :(

Thank you Graham and Susan for your kind replies

I have now figured out my problem, and I am, um...., really kind of
embarassed.......

Turns out I was clicking away at the Tools:Add to Favorites command and then
complaining that nothing was being added to "My Places".

I suppose we might charitably describe this as an intelligence failure.... <g>

I'd call it just poor eye-hand coordination. And this must be happening in
Word 2002, since Favorites is no longer available in Word 2003.

1.XP: can't add 9th "Place" to "My Places" bar

Although KB282087 says I should be able to have 256 Places on the "My Places"
bar, I am able to add only 3 Places in addition to the 5 default Places.

Is the KB wrong, or am I missing something painfully obvious?

Microsoft's Knowledge Base Article 282087 describes how
to add a "Show" key for each of the "Standard Places"
that appear on Microsoft Office applications' Open dialog
box.

However, even when you set up a DWORD "Show" key with a
value of "0", and do a restart, all 5 standard items with
a "Show" key of "0" still appear in Word and in other
Office applications. I'm running Microsoft Office XP

back and verified that each of the 5 keys is set exactly
as specified.
