  • 1. Menus on custom toolbars
Hello-- I received a Word template that contains a custom toolbar. On this toolbar are (of course) styles. But there is also a button that shows a downward pointing arrow that you can click to open a menu displaying more styles. How do I add more menus like this to the toolbar? I can't find any help in the docs. Thanks.
  • 2. searching for NEAR words
hi, I would like to search word documents for words near one another (e.g. "secretary NEAR state" can locate "Secretary of State"). The Find and Replace tool does not seem to have this capability. Is there a way to do this currently in MS Word 2000? Any upgrades or VBA solutions? thanks
  • 3. Changing the background of a template in Word 2000
How can I set the background of a template (normal.dot) to anything other than the normal "blank page". I would like to add my company's logo in the center of the page (not the header or footer). I would like this imbeded in the document with all full editing features available when writing over the logo. What I had tried before was adding a picture(sending it behind the text) then protecting the document so it appearde fixed to the background, but this removed some very important editing capabilities such as justifying, changing font style and size, etc. So my question is how can I add an image to my templates background, but make it imbeded to the document but still be able to freely write over this image and have all editing features available. • 4. When I double click on a xls or doc file
When I double click on an Excel file or word file it seems that it is trying to open twice. I get this message: A document with the name "filename" is already open. You cannot open two documents with the same name, even if the documents are in different folders. To open the second document, either close the document that is currently open, or rename one of the documents I even tried to just select it and hit enter. It will work if I am in word or excel and use the file open command. any clues!! ..

When starting Word 2000 all of my menus at the top of the screen had disappeared. My guess is a template was somehow changed. How do I get the original template/menus back? Thanks!

Word- copy, paste & cut icons greyed out

Postby Alan Byrne » Thu, 04 Sep 2003 04:29:16 GMT

i'm a tech support analyst & a client had a problem with
her copy, paste & cut buttons always being greyed out/
unavailable.

highlighting the text/graphic & using the short cut keys
do work without any problems
e.g. ctrl + c to copy, ctrl + x to cut

her configurations for word and everything
seems to be normal, i've trawled the internet including
microsofts support site for a resolution and havent found
anything remotely close to the source of the problem

i would be extremely grateful if anyone could give me
advise on this problem !!

thanks for your time & effort :)

Hi Alan,

Which version of word are we dealing with? Have you tried
starting Word with the \a switch to see if the problem is
still present in "safe mode"?

I'm betting it won't be, and that a macro (or addin) has
set these buttons' enabled property to false.

See "WD2002: What Does the Word Startup Switch "/a" Really Do?" at
 http://www.**--****.com/ , Copy, and Paste
commands work normally when Word is run in this mode, this indicates that
the problem is with Normal.dot, the Registry, or an add-in.

3.Copy/Cut and Paste cuts out

Hi there, after several uses of copying and pasting, it will stop collecting
data. I don't recieve an error message, and the clipboard can be empty or
partially full. Even cleaning the clipboard out the problem still happens.
I've tried detect/repair and a complete fresh install. It only happens on
word xp, but it does happen on two of our machines in our office. It is not
document specific either, it can be a new document or an old one. Any help
would be great.

4.Cut/copy/paste only pasting Print Screen

I have read several posts about this problem but am not finding a
solution. I thought that I had read a solution in the past that was
posted by Beth Melton. The problem is not with my keyboard or with the
application, and I was able to utilize the solution that was posted
before. I just can't recall what that was. Please help! I only want
to cut/copy/paste selected text, not the entire screen capture!
Thanks.

5.cut/copy and paste in word - entire screen is pasted

When I try to do a simple cut and paste: right click the mouse; edit -
copy/cut and paste; or ctrl+c / ctrl+v, it won't work properly.

I copy a sentence, and the entire screen is pasted, toolbars and all.

What is going on?
