Thanks for your help. Please, can you be more specific? I tried the right tabs and dot leaders and can't make it work. Also, still not sure how to use the built in TOC styles without indicating entries in main body of document. "Jezebel" wrote: > Use right tabs with dot leaders, same as the automated TOC does. Deleting block of text takes a long, long, LONG time

Postby TmVzc2ll » Tue, 02 Jun 2009 23:23:01 GMT

When I try to delete selected (highlighted) text, nothing seems to happen for
a very long time. Word 2007 seems to just sit and think, and does nothing for
30s to a minute. For very short pieces of text (several characters) it goes
faster, for medium sized (1 page), the delay is unnaceptable.

This happens regardless of whether I use Backspace, Delete, Ctrl+X, or just
type over selected text.

It's a very big issue when using any macros that rely on repeatedly
pasting/deleting blocks of text, such as any of the translation tools that
integrate with Word via macros (Trados, Logoport).

I'm using Word 2007 SP2 (and a computer fast enough to run most new games,
so you'd think deleting 600 words would not be a problem...)

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

If you start Word in Safe mode (hold Ctrl as you start the application), do
you still see this issue?

1.MS Office 2003 always looking for MSWORD (looking a long, long time

I have MSOffice 2003 Pro and when I want to send a message out of Outlook,
it comes up with a window looking "forever" for MSWord.. It takes so long
that I never waited to the end.

I re-installed MSOffice 2003, also used the Repair action, all went well,
but there is no change. It still keeps on looking for MSWord. It IS
installed, I can see it under My Programs and then under MSOffice 2003.

This program has worked fine in the past but I installed it on a new HP
computer. Installation went fine, except I have the above trouble.

What in the world can cause this?

2.Word 2000 takes a long time to open Word X file

Word X template is used to create a new simple text only Word
document. The new Word document is opened in Word 2000 under Windows
2000. It takes a long time to open and at the bottom of the screen
there is some blurb about virus scan being requested. I have Norton AV
2004 on the Windows 2000 machine, but the wierd thing is that as soon
as I click anywhere outside Word 2000 so that it loses focus and then
immediately click back on Word 2000 the slow document has now opened.
I do not have this problem with Word documents created in Word 2000
and viewed in Word 2000. Any ideas about what is in the Word X created
document that is slowing things down?

Of course, the Word X created document opens quickly in Word X.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi There.
We're having some problems when we try to open documents by double clicking
on them, it takes word or excel apx. 2-3 minutes to open. I start word/excel
then load the document, theres no problems. Tried to uninstall A/V, printers,
uninstall/reinstall office, Tried our old Office 2003 but the problem remains
the same :( The Workstation is fresh installed with Windows XP SP3 and fully
updated.

Any ideas ?

4.Browsing files hangs/takes a long time

When using MS Excel or Word 2007 and attempting to open files, after clicking
on File/Open and upon clicking Look In the machine hangs for fifteen to
thirty seconds almost every time (about 80% of the time it will do this, but
not every time). We are not sure if its caching some network shares or
attempting to browse certain folders, but is there a way to make the 'Look
In' part of the search more responsive (ie not hang) ? TIA ...

5.Word Taking Long Time to Open

Just rolled out a new IT training suite at my work.

Brand new Dell PCs (3GHz), Office XP Pro.

Office applications work well - very fast. EXCEPT Word. Word takes about 1
to 2 minutes to open. Doesn't matter if other Office apps have been opened
previously or not. Also does it each time Word is opened.

Any ideas?

Computers are heavily locked down using GPOs, but no specific settings for
Word are pushed out.

Computers use local profiles, with the exception of desktop and start menu
which come from network location.

HELP!
