Hello, Is it possible to set the default documents path in Word 2003 to set to 'My Computer'? So I see first all my disk drives? I know the registry entry DOC-PATH and where I can change this in the options menu, but I want to know what I must set. Thanks for any help! Regards, Dirk

  • 4. Poor fomatting of embedded or linked tables
I'd find it hard to believe that this hasn't been asked in the past... so I apologize if I re-asking. Word 2007: Simply put, the formatting of Excel tables in word seems to be quite poor. I've done so from within Word (Insert>Table>Excel Spreadsheet) as well as past special Link out of a separate workbook. The most noticeable formatting error is that gaps between letters is off... sometimes by a lot making words look stretched or squished. It severely limits what would otherwise be a very useful feature in my opinion. In general, the only method I have found for precisely replicating formatting of an Excel table in Word is to past special Enhanced Metafile... which cannot be done as a link. Now I know you can create a normal table and LINK to individual Excel cells. But this method seems troublesome as the link references are absolute and thus fragile. Also, it would be very cumbersome if you had a large number of tables and fields. Any questions or suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.
  • 5. Hyperlink to file, default open program
Using Windows XP SP 3 In a Word 2003 doc file, I have a hyperlink of the form file:///C:\Folder/Picture.jpg. When I click on the link, Internet Explorer opens the jpg file. The default opener for jpg files is Picture Manager, i.e. when I double-click a jpg file name in Windows Explorer, Picture Manager opens the file. Is there a way to bypass Internet Explorer, and have Picture Manager open the file targeted in the doc's hyperlink?

Word 2003 - cannot paste text from web page w/o using paste specia

When I try to paste text from a web page into microsoft word 2003 it freezes
and I have to kill the word process to recover. If I use 'paste
special'->Formatted text, everthing pastes fine. I believe I was able to
copy and paste from web pages without this extra step in previous versions of
word. Does anyone know how I can correct this or make Formatted text the
default paste option?

If you are using Windows XP SP2, the problem may be caused by new security
restrictions in Windows.

1.Cannot copy and paste images from web page into Word 2003

This worked until several weeks ago (November 2008 maybe). Now, when I copy
a web page and paste it into word, it saves the position and size of the
images, but not the images themselves. I have to go back and copy each image
separately, and then I can paste it into the document. I'd like to restore
the ability to copy and paste everything at once. In my Tools-Options
settings, View Drawings is enabled, and Print Drawing Objects is enabled.
The placeholder options are not selected.

4.Cut and paste text from web crashes Word 2003

Hi,

I often need to cut and paste text from web pages into Word 2003 docs, but
find that must first paste the text into WordPad, then cut and paste it
again into Word. Otherwise, Word freezes -- the hourglass appears -- and
once or twice, everything that was open on the computer froze.

I checked the Windows XP Task Manager, and noticed that there were entries
in the Processes list for both WINWORD.EXE and for MSWORKS.EXE. My computer
came with an OEM installation of MS Works, but I upgraded to Office 2003 for
Small Business. Could this be related to the freezing problem?

Is this a known problem, and is there a fix for it?

Thank you.

5.Pasting text from a web page causes Word to freeze

Don't you love it. I've been copying and pasting text from web pages for
years, but recently have intermittently encountering a lockup in Word. I had
assumed it was perhaps due to some new style of web page, but today it
happened after copying a paragraph of the most generic html text. So the
problem is in Word.

Any clues would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Doug
