After I copied a large portion of text into my document from another document, Word now repaginates incessantly when I try to move around my document. I need to work in the Print Layout view so I can see all the objects in my doc. I understand that Tools > Options >General >Backgroup repagination is automatically selected and can't be turned off. Is there another way to get Word to stop repaginating while I'm in Print Layout view?

I am writting a documment that contains several chapters. I a wirting a separtly file for each chapter, and each chapter has endnots on it. Some of the endnotes are repeated on two or three chapters, but in the final endnote list these references should not be repeated. is there a way to have word autimatically identify repeated endnotes and arrange them, or is ther another way I can write my chapter making the righ cross references, so at the end the document turns out fine, and I don't have a mess of cross referencing? thanks
  • 4. multiple table of contents
In help, I learned that I can make several Table of Contents by marking text. For Table of Contents, I am indexing with the letter C. For Table of Figures, I am indexing with the letter F. However, the coding is not working. I looked at the code for the Table of Contents which is {TOC \f \h \z} and it works. So for the Table of Figures, I put in {TOC \f C \h \z} and it is not working. Any ideas? Thanks,

Creating hyperlinks from word doc to pdf doc

Postby QnJhZA » Tue, 05 Sep 2006 00:35:02 GMT

I am preparing a brief in word in which I need to link to create hyperlinks
to other files. The hyperlinks to pdf documents that I have created are not
working. Is it possible to create a hyperlink from a word document to a pdf
document? If so, a brief direction on how would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

It works fine here (using Word 2003). Highlight the word you Insert -
Hyperlink, type the display text the box provided, use Look in: to navigate
to the .pdf file, click on it, then click OK.

Use Ctrl+click to open the resulting hyperlink (unless that option isn't
checked in Tools - Options - Edit).

Thanks for the response, Herb. Followed your direction - with same result.
When I click on the resulting hyperlink, adobe opens (very briefly) and then
closes. The .pdf file never actually opens.

So, the question is... is this a Word problem, or is it an Adobe problem.

What happens if you save the file as html, then open it using your browser.
Does the .pdf link work from there?

If it works, a work-around (to at least get you through the presentation)
would be to set it up in html rather than as a Word document.

Another test would be to open the .doc file in Wordpad, and see if the links
work from there.

I appreciate your help, Herb.

The html work around was effective. Thank you. That will get me through
the presentation.

FYI, I opened the .doc file in Wordpad and the links did not work (the
hyperlinks were formatted as hyperlinks but did not work).

I'm curious about the original problem. I'm going to continue to try to
solve it and if I do, I'll post the solution.

Thanks, again.

Hi there Brad, we came across the same problem last week.

My colleague found that if you update your version to Adobe Acrobat Reader
7.0.8 the hyperlink will work. I hope this helps!
