  • 1. How to print a report of Word 2003 settings?
Is there a way to print a report of a computer's Word 2003 settings? We have a department of 10 writers, who are all using the same template. The template is not applying styles correctly for 1 of the 10 writers (the other 9 have no problems at all with the template). Since only one of the writers is having this problem with the template, we are left to assume that the problem is being caused by one of her settings (rather than the template itself). We would like to (as quickly and painlessly as possible) determine how her settings may differ from one of the other writers...

I update may pieces of information in Word documents and hide the updating using Application.ScreenUpdating = False. This works for everything except headers and footers. When headers and footers are updating (even though the data being updated is not displayed) ugly dotted line artifacts flash around the headers and footers area while they are being updated. Is there anyway to hide these artifacts. Application.ScreenUpdating = False does not work.
  • 5. How can I tab between text form fields in Word 2002?
I have a very simple need but can't figure out how to satisfy it: I have a short form letter with 11 text form fields. I simply want to be able to tab from one field to another. Setting Tab stops is not the answer because the fields are not in-line. I do not want to use mail merge because the volume of the letters is rather small and it would not be time-effective to create a data source just for them. Does Word have a simple way to do this?

TOC Displays the Number 3 for all page numbers

Postby TGFycnk » Tue, 18 Oct 2005 12:12:01 GMT

I have Word 2003, professional version. Every once in a while, my TOC changes
all the numbers to 3. They way I fix it is I right click on my mouse and
click on update field - page numbers only.

Is a bug in word? How do I fix it? This does not happen all the time. Other
users have the same problem, but again, not all the time...

Reading Layout could be the cause of this problem. You can turn it off
on the General tab of Tools>Options, by clearing the check box for
"Allow starting in Reading Layout."

Stefan,

Thanks for the quick response. I have made the setting change and will
monitor over the next few days as this issue is intermittent. I will send a
post back by the end of the week, if not earlier.

Thanks again,

Larry

Hi Stefan,

Looks like your suggestion fixed the problem. Thank you. I have been
monitoring the last few days and have not noticed any occurences of the
problem. I do have several questions:

Why does this only happen with Word 2003 Professional Edition?
Is this issue something unique to me and other users who have the same
version of word? I do know that it has occurred with at least one other
person. I do not know what version they are using.
Should I advise users to peform the same fix with anyone using Word 2003
Professional?
Will this issue be addressed in the next version of Word?

Any other information you can provide would be helpful and much appreciated.

Thank you!

Larry

Reading Layout view was introduced in Word 2003, so the issue is not
relevant to previous versions.

Suzanne,

Thank you for your response. Can you answer my two other questions please?

Should I advise users to peform the same fix with anyone using Word 2003
Professional?
Will this issue be addressed in the next version of Word?

Plus, is this considered a bug or feature?

pparently some people *like* Reading Layout view, but if you find it causes
problems in the documents you exchange with others, then, yes, you might
want to advise those with Word 2003 to disable the option.

orry about the blank post, I was signing in and pressed the wrong button. I
just wanted to say that I run Word 2000 and I get all threes in TOC when I go
to Print Preview.

ell, clearly this isn't caused by Reading Layout view (since Word 2000
doesn't have that feature), but it might be a variation on the "page number
0" problem described at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Numbering/PageNumber0.htm

ince I use tables and page numbers in my footers I thought that was the
problem. But no, I took out the table and I still have the problem. My TOC
ends up with a 2 and all the rest 3s. I have to renumber then avoid Preview.
Any other suggestions?

Hey - This is great to fix a single PC but we have roughly 400 PC's in use in
our organization, all of which use MS Office 2K3 Professional. Is there an
easy way to turn this off for a large number of users?

Cheers!
Ben

1.Include page number prefix in toc page numbers

Hello all,

I have a series of documents where the page number prefix changes per
section; i.e. BR00{Page number} etc.

Is there a way of including the prefix in the TOCs page numbering?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

2.Displaying page numbers as roman numerals in TOC

Hi, my page numbers are formatted to appear as roman numerals in my document.
However, when I create a table of contents, they appear as 1, 2, 3, etc. Is
there any way to solve this problem? Thank you very much for the time you'll
take to answer this.

3.TOC not displaying full page number

Hi

My document as several sections. The first section has a simple x/y. No
problem there.

The other sections are Annexes. Each number A-x/y, B-x/y, C-x/y etc. A-B-B
are the corresponding Annexes. Of course each section is not linked to the
previous. The page numbers are in the footer. As an example, the page
number for Annex F reads:
F-{PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT}/{SECTIONPAGES \*MERGEFORMAT}

My problem is that the Table of Contents does not display the proper format
for the Annex page. It does not display F-x/y. It simply show "x"

How can I fix this?

Thank you in advance.
