  • 1. Merge Excel to Avery 30607 labels
I have a template for Avery 30607 1"x4" labels, 20 per sheet in 2 columns of 10. The return label is setup on all 10 of the left hand labels. I want to merge my Excel sheet data into ONLY the right side 10 labels. Naturally, if the merge goes past the end of the page (which it certainly will...I do mail merges of thousands), I want it to continue on. The merge goes perfectly until I "preview labels," then it all goes awry! So far, I have found no way to keep the merge from continuing on from the top right side label to the left side lables..under the .jpg image I have on the left side labels used as the return labels. We used to be provided with pre-printed labels. Now we must do our own return and mailing labels. I hope someone will be able to guide me through this without having to do all the return labels on one sheet and all the mailing labels on another. It would be much easier to address the envelopes without having to go from one sheet to another, with each envelope. Help!
  • 2. TMP files that don't begin with a "~$"
Whenever I or anyone at my office opens a word 2007 document, there are some strange files being created. I understand that MS Word will always create a copy of the file you have opened and are working on and that the filename ALWAYS starts with a ~$. That is happening on our computers. What Word 2007 is also doing however is creating a temp file each time changes are saved in a document that is open. These files DO NOT go away when you exit word or close the current document. Here is a sample listing of the directory where the original opened document resides and has been opened, modified, and saved four times after making changes. This is how the directory looks with the file still open: C:\Myfiles\ mytestfile.docx ~$testfile.docx 3F796272.TMP 4D8C5B50.TMP CC126DDE.TMP 524FB59C.TMP The other thing that I noticed is that this mysterious TMP files are only created when using MS Word 2007 to save a document to a previous version of word - 97-2003. Can anyone tell me what is causing these files to be created and if there is a way to DISABLE these files from being created? Thanks!

I called the support number listed here on another post and the guy told me Microsoft no longer supports my product. I had a new computer built and they put my old hard drive in it as a slave drive ?? but I had issues accessing my programs and had to reinstall this. When I go to open my old docs saved on that drive it now pulls up word but asks for this key. I have no idea where it is I have looked everywhere. The guy at Microsoft told me to go out and purchase a full version as an update won't even work. Any suggestions? Thanks!

When I OPEN a file, I would like my VIEWS to always be set as DETAILS. How
can I set this to be the permanent and forever default, ...so that for every
time, for all files and all folders the VIEW is always set to be DETAILS?
  Thanks!

Hi Xorren,

Welll, can't guarantee 'forever' and depending on your version of Office the open and save dialogs may exhibit 'independent
thinking' <g>, but generally, in Windows Explorer Tools=>Folder Options and when you set the folders decide if you want to let
individual folders 'remember' their last settings.

Thanks, Bob. But that recommnedation did not work. I am using Vista and
tried your suggestion, but no luck. I hear the voice of Obi-wan saying
something about "open source", but I can't quite hear him clearly. Thanks,
again.

Hi Xorren,

Settings are a bit different in Vista, one of the folks who are actively using it may be able to help with that version.

By the way, Microsoft has a couple of Open Source websites/projects they support <g>, but not sure how that relates to the current
issue :)

3.File Open / View / Details Set as Default

When I OPEN a file, I would like my VIEWS to always be set as DETAILS. How
can I set this to be the default view?

I have gone to Windows Explorer Tools | Folder Options and set the folders
to be like the one shown (details) but when I go back into Word 2007 the old
yucky view is still there. Also, I need the the title of the document column
to be wider, which I can do by dragging it, but I want to set it wider as a
default, and it switches back to the yucky view as soon as I close the open
dialogue box.

This was posted previously but wasn't answered. Anybody???
