Just installed microsoft office professional plus 2007. Every time I open a word doc. it wants to intialize and takes 2-3 min to open file. The states at top [compatibility mode] on the file. It is with converted files and new files that i am having trouble with.

Running Office 2007 for Home and Students on a laptop running Vista 64-bit operating system. I have set Word to save files in Word 2003-97 format as the default. I am having problems where some folks with Office 2003 or Office XP cannot open the .doc file that is generated from this copy of Word 2007. Word 2003 or XP will load the file far enough that you can read the first page but the hourglass doesn't go away - so you cannot navigate the file or print it. This happens to files that are e-mailed as attachments as well as those that are moved via a USB thumb drive. I have 2 older computers at home, both running Windows XP and Office XP. One freezes up when loading a .doc file from my newest machine and one reads it just fine. The computer that reads it fine has the Office 2007 conversion update, the other one doesn't. Ideas?

file open/views/details set details as default

When I OPEN a file, I would like my VIEWS to always be set as DETAILS. How
can I set this to be the permanent and forever default, ...so that for every
time, for all files and all folders the VIEW is always set to be DETAILS?
  Thanks!

Hi Xorren,

Welll, can't guarantee 'forever' and depending on your version of Office the open and save dialogs may exhibit 'independent
thinking' <g>, but generally, in Windows Explorer Tools=>Folder Options and when you set the folders decide if you want to let
individual folders 'remember' their last settings.

Thanks, Bob. But that recommnedation did not work. I am using Vista and
tried your suggestion, but no luck. I hear the voice of Obi-wan saying
something about "open source", but I can't quite hear him clearly. Thanks,
again.

Hi Xorren,

Settings are a bit different in Vista, one of the folks who are actively using it may be able to help with that version.

By the way, Microsoft has a couple of Open Source websites/projects they support <g>, but not sure how that relates to the current
issue :)

3.File Open / View / Details Set as Default

When I OPEN a file, I would like my VIEWS to always be set as DETAILS. How
can I set this to be the default view?

I have gone to Windows Explorer Tools | Folder Options and set the folders
to be like the one shown (details) but when I go back into Word 2007 the old
yucky view is still there. Also, I need the the title of the document column
to be wider, which I can do by dragging it, but I want to set it wider as a
default, and it switches back to the yucky view as soon as I close the open
dialogue box.

This was posted previously but wasn't answered. Anybody???
