Word 2002 takes long time to open Word document with missing templ

Postby S2Vsdmlu » Tue, 13 Sep 2005 19:52:02 GMT

I have many documents that were created in previous version of Word 2002 in
the network, and they were attached to a template that has been moved or no
longer exists in the previous server.

They are now being opened VERY slowly in word 2002 (takes 2-3 minutes for
few pages document). There is nothing very unique about these documents, they
do have some tables in them. It is very basic.

Is there any fix or patch which can solve this problem without modifying the
Word documents? Any help would be appreciated.

1.Word 2002 takes LONG time to open.

I have Word 2002 that came on a disk with MS Works. It was working fine.
Recently, when trying to open Word, it takes a long time for it to open,
usually will show the white and blue "word" box on the screen until it opens,
which can range from 10-30 minutes. I have tried downloads/updates, tried
uninstalling and then re-installing, but nothing seems to work. Any
suggestions?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you, Elaine

2.Microsoft Word 2002 takes a long time to start

Microsoft Word 2002 takes a long time to start (about 20 sec.). The
application is on both my start menu and the desktop.

Is this the application's normal behavior and how would I shorten Word's
start?

Thank you,

3.word 2002 font screen takes a long time to appear

In an earlier post I reported that Word 2002 was not responding when I did
Format/Font or Modified a Style. To my amazement, the Font screen comes up
but after what I'd consider an very long time (30 seconds plus). I was
prematurely closing the font screen assuming it stopped responding. What
would Word be looking for that initial request that is making take so long?
However, once it comes up it appears very quickly from that point on for
that session of Word. When I reopen Word that first font screen takes a
long time. I just upgraded to 2002 from Word 97 on my XP laptop. Is this
normal behavior for Word 2002 and XP?

One other question. On my Windows 98 machine all the font icons were TT,
with the XP machine some fonts show TT but most have an O icon but still
has the .ttf file extension. COuld someone tell me what the O stands for?

TIA

4.It takes really long time to open word-documents

I switched domain on my computer, and after the switch some documents are
takeing like 5 minutes to open. Some document works fine (some old, that was
created before the domain switch, and all new). Any ideas whats taking so
long time?
The same problems occurs on other computers than mine with the same documents.

5.Word 2003 Taking a Long time to open documents

I have a user who was recently upgraded to Windows XP SP2 with Word 2003
Professional - all service packs have been applied. All other user's in her
area are Windows 2000 Professional with Word 2000 - Again all service packs
have been applied.

When my user attempts to open most Word / Excel (PowerPoint has not been
tried) files it takes an excessively long time to open these files. These
files were created in versions of Word previous to 2003.

While opening these files there is very little CPU or memory usage -
although Word stays not responding - there are two instances of Word until
the document opens. In several cases, I noted that one Word icon was a
previous version and the second Word 2003.

I have attempted the following:

From Microsoft Document - Article ID : 830561

I have attached both the tempate that the document uses; as well as
Normal.dot - both have failed. And the document reverted to the template
that it was created from.

I have deleted the normal.dot

Deleted and re-added printers.

Ran Office repair

Machine is re-started every night
