I know, it's silly. However, I want to keep the little sound that occurs when you save a Word doc. I have to go to: all programs, accessories, entertainment, and then sound recorder. Just doing this will put the sound in ONCE. How do I keep it there? Thank you so much.
  • 3. Create a book in Word
I would like to create a book in Word that consists of multiple Word files. This book would contain a cover page, TOC, List of Examples/Figures, followed by the individual Word documents and an interactive index. If anyone is familiar with the book feature in Framemaker or Indesign, this is what I'd like to be able to do in Word. I reviewed the master and subdocument online help and tested this, but it didn't quite fit the bill. Is this something I can do with Word?

Word Hangs after latest MS Update Download

Postby R3Jh » Fri, 14 Apr 2006 18:33:02 GMT

Hi guys

I downloaded the latest updates yesterday (12 April) after a notification
message. I noticed one of them was related to Office products. Since
switching on the PC today I cannot open any files in Word or save any
documents: it just hangs and stops responding.

Any advice? Looking at some of the other messages, is there a glitch in the
latest updates?

Version of Word?
I have Word 2003 on my system with the latest update (which was released
some time ago, not yesterday). The last Word 2003 update was released in
February according to the website.

Have you tried the various steps / strategies set out at

It's a bug in this fix to fix a bug in Explorer:

You can remove it from Add/Remove Programs, where it shows as "Security
Update for Windows XP (KB908531)". Make sure the "show updates" box at the
top is ticked or you won't see hotfixes in the list.

Thank you both for your advice - it's Word 2002. I'll do the uninstall (to
get rid of the bug, fixing the other bug).

check to see if HP share to web componenet is also installed
(Hpgs2wnd.exe) as there is a MS article highlighting this issue with MS
06-015 update.

you can apply a reg hack to fix or opt to wait for MS to release
revised version of MS06-015. Reg hack worked for me.

apparently KB908531 messed things up. Where does Microsoft post information

Suddenly Publisher 2003 won't save a file, any file. No error message but the

apparently it's happening there too. Virus protection is up to date.

I can open a file (exel, word) if I go through Microsoft Explorer. However, I
can't open a file from the program itself (word, excel).

Does anyone know the status of the KB908531 problem?

This was a security patch that MS released this past Tuesday (4/11), and
on many machines it is breaking both IE and all MS Office applications.
Removing the patch fixes the problem, but:

-It leaves the security hole that the patch fixed open
-If you have automatic update turned on, you keep getting "nagged" and
have a yellow splat in your system tray

When is a "fixed" KB908531 expected?

Users are reporting that uninstalling KB908531 solves the problem.
Microsoft is working on it.

Use the Control panel - Add/Remove programs, and be sure and check the
box "Show Updates"
