  • 1. Page x of y numbering
I want to using this method of numbering with a title page. The title page is set up as 0 count without a page number showing. However, my "y" count includes the title page. Is there a way to make it so the y count excludes the cover page? Right now, my last page reads 22 of 23. Obviously, not what I was hoping for! I'm using Word 2003.
  • 2. check boxes and tables
I have a table. One of the cells in the table I want to calculate a value one of two ways depending on the value of a checkbox located on the document. I tried an IF function: if check1 = true "(e11+e13)*.08" "e11*.08" Two questions: I have learned the hard way that this only returns text not a value of the function. How can I get the value of the function to calculate in the cell? What is the "value" of the check1? Checked or unchecked, my IF statement is always false. I am working in Word 2000
  • 3. Adding Numbers of Multiple Cells in a Table
I have inserted bookmarks in the cells in my table (one column). x = a1 x = a2 x = a3 x = a4 x =a 5 x Subtotal cell ? I have tried using a formula: -- insert field, formula. What is the calculation for adding the cells above. The help menu only shows a calculation to add 2 cells instead of a column of cells. I then have two more cells below the subtotal cell: x x x Total cell. What is the field formula for adding the subtotal and the two cells below? I am using bookmarks because I have a subtotal and 2 cells below to equal a total. PS - Why doesn't Word have any templates with the formula's. It seems that formula's are primarily done in excel. Thank you very much! Bettina

When I click on the file on the tool bar the drop down box comes up light and
I can't click on it for about 10 or 15 seconds. This started after I tried to
add a HP printer which I was not able to do. I deleted all the HP stuff but
still have the problem. Its driving me nuts!!

You may need to load a new printer and set it as the default print to get
this working properly. Word 2003 and up are very concerned about the printer.

If this doesn't work, you can try performing a Detect and Repair from the
Help Menu to see if this fixes the problem.

1.Word XP crashes when clicking File from tool bar

The error message is "Microsoft has encountered a problem
and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".

I'm running it on a Win 2000 pc.

Any ideas? Thanks.

2.Computer takes long time when clicking on font attibutes

Greeting!

This occur when I load up Word, Excel or any other Office (2003) on a
P4-2.66/512Mb/WinXP :

When I click on the font size, or on the font, or if I click on BOLD, the
computer freeze for 10 secs - This does not occur if I click on ITALIC. Same
goes for PAGE SETUP - the computer will jam for at least 1/6 of a minute.

Anyway, after I did it once, the computer doesn't freeze anymore. If I quit
the application, load it up again, the computer freeze again... Until I
clicked once...

I installed all the fonts available with Office and some more (few Adobe
fonts).

Any idea?

3.Deleting block of text takes a long, long, LONG time

When I try to delete selected (highlighted) text, nothing seems to happen for
a very long time. Word 2007 seems to just sit and think, and does nothing for
30s to a minute. For very short pieces of text (several characters) it goes
faster, for medium sized (1 page), the delay is unnaceptable.

This happens regardless of whether I use Backspace, Delete, Ctrl+X, or just
type over selected text.

It's a very big issue when using any macros that rely on repeatedly
pasting/deleting blocks of text, such as any of the translation tools that
integrate with Word via macros (Trados, Logoport).

I'm using Word 2007 SP2 (and a computer fast enough to run most new games,
so you'd think deleting 600 words would not be a problem...)

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

4.Office 2003 tool (task) bar no longer supported?

The Office Shortcut bar has been removed from Office 2003.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Victor Gamiz asked:

| Office XP implemented a task bar that stayed permanantly open,
| regardless of the application. All applications addjusted for it so
| that it was always visible. On Office 2003 that capability is not
| readily available. Is that true? I can't find it.

5.Mark ups keep coming back...

I am trying to save a large document with lots of formating and mark ups to
have it open as the final version, everytime that I get it perfect and the
way that i like to send it, it doesn't save in the final version. Everytime
that I open it back up it shows all the markings again on the right hand - I
went to Tools>Options> Security>turned off the make hidden mark up visible -
didn't work. I tried to save it as a read only doucment once I was done with
it and that didn't work either. Still every time I open this thing it shows
everything! Somebody pls help.
