    Why does the date change to the current date each time I open a document? It is frustrating and unhelpful, especially in copies of letters where the original date is important. Suddenly Word 2003 has started this strange behavior.  If I select a blcok of 
text then try and drag and drop it within an open document the cursor becomes 
a circle-slash and I cannot drop it anywhere.  I can Ctrl-X and then Ctrl-V 
the text, but I cannot drag and drop it. 

Tools>Options>Edit Drag and drop IS enabled.  (turning that off only 
disallows the cursor from grabbing the text, no circle-slash appears.)

How do I get rid if this incredible nuisance?

Is the area where you are trying to drop it within the document margins and
within an area of existing text?
