  • 2. How does Word "align center" text boxes
I am building flow charts using text boxes set to resize to fit text and I would like all the boxes on the page center-aligned and/or middle/aligned. Whenever I type in one box, it expands toward the right, and sometimes down, which off-centers the box. When I try to re-align the box using "align center" and "align middle" under the Format/Arrange command group, sometimes the box I just typed in moves back into line with the other boxes, and sometimes all the other boxes I have selected move into line with the box I just typed in. There doesn't seem to be any ryhme or reason to it. Microsoft's notes on these commands say that the boxes move toward the average center of all the boxes selected, but that is not the case. I get vastly different results depending on a number of factors, i.e.: how many boxes I have selected when I align them; the size of individual boxes; how far off-center one particular box is; etc. Does anyone know how Word's "align center" and "align middle" algorithms work? It would make my life much easier if I wasn't constantly having to select every box on the page to have them all center or middle-aligned. Thanks for the help.

Clip Art Doesn't Show

I'm using Word 2007. When I insert clip art, all I get is the very bottom of
the picture and no matter what I do to the box, I can't get the inserted
clip art to show up. What's happening ?

It sounds like two things are happening:

1. Wrapping is set to In line with text, and

2. Paragraph spacing is set to Exactly #, where # is less than the amount
needed to display the clipart.

You should be able to fix the immediate issue by right-clicking the
paragraph marker where the picture resides, choosing Paragraph, and setting
Line Spacing to Single. (There are a variety of ways to fix this... this is
just one of them.)

If this is happening all the time in all documents, a longer term fix would
be to change the default formatting for paragraph spacing (Exactly is not
the built-in default, and is a setting that can create a number of
problems -- it sometimes results from pasting text from other sources, such
as web pages, where Exactly spacing is used with wild abandon by web
designers). So, if this is happening all the time, the quick & easy solution
is to delete Normal.dotm and let Word create a new one.

Another solution would be to change the default method for inserting
pictures to something other than In line with text (which is done in Word
Options - Advanced - Cut, copy, and paste section. If your default paragraph
spacing is set to Exactly, however, you will invariably end up with related
problems in the future, not ncessarily related to graphics (i.e., clipped
text).

The paragraph spacing appears to have been the problem. THANK YOU !

4.pictures/clip art inserted in word don't show, just a frame shows

When I insert pictures or graphics into a word document it doesn't show. All
you see is the frame where the item would be. With Clipart items (other than
photos) if you right click on it and select "edit the picture" you can then
see it, but if it happens to be a photo or an item which is not a clipart
item then that option is not available.

This is really frustrating as I do a lot of proposals and documentation for
our company which requires me to insert logos, charts and photo's.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? I have checked all my settings,
but can't find anything there that looks "wrong".

I have Word 2000 (MS Office 2000) and I have installed the clip art gallery.

downloaded from the online clip art gallery. Why? How can I fix this? It
used to work and then one day it didn't. I've reinstalled since then.
