I've copied and pasted images from a Web page into a Word 2003 document. While they appear in Print view, they disappear in Normal view. Bug? Known issue? Workaround? Thanks --

Hi, GOL. The behavior you're seeing is by design.

Normal view is for typing, editing, and formatting text. Normal view
shows text formatting but simplifies the layout of the page so that you
can type and edit quickly. In normal view, page boundaries, headers and
footers, backgrounds, drawing objects, and pictures that do not have the
"inline with text" wrapping style do not appear.

Print Layout view shows how text, graphics, and other elements will be
positioned on the printed page. This view is useful for editing headers
and footers, for adjusting margins, and for working with columns and
drawing objects.

Thanks; I do understand this. Is there, however, a workaround? I need to send a doc via e-mail and can't be sure recipient will be sure to view doc in Print view so as not to miss images.

Thanks --

A few ideas:
1. You can format all the objects as inline with text if that doesn't
mess up the layout.
2. You can convert the Word doc to Acrobat format and send the Acrobat
version.
3. You might try adding an AutoOpen macro to the document to make it
open in Print Layout view, but if security is set to High on the
recipient's computer, the macro won't run.
4. When you email the Word doc, include a note in the email telling the
recipient to use Print Layout view.

Generally speaking, if you save the document in Print Layout view, it will
open in Print Layout view, even on another computer. This was pretty
dependable up through Word 97. With the introduction of SDI, it gets iffier
but is still generally reliable.

2.IE6 won't display images in web pages created in MS Word XP (Win98 OS)

I am unable to see photo images using IE 6 to view web
pages I create on my machine with MS Word XP. I have Win98
on my machine, is this a security setting problem or
something about how MS Word creates web pages?

Thanks, Mike

3.Word 2007 won't display images

I've changed over to using Office 2007 (clean install after removing Office
20023) and have a strange problem with Word 2007. I very often convert PDF
files to Docx format and need to be able to paste images, that I cut from the
PDF, into the resulting word document. i've been able to do this
successfully in Word 2003 with no problems.

However, in Word 2007 images that I paste into the document will not display
in "draft view", only "print layout". This is a major hassle as I type
notes into the document (I'm a college student) during lectures and having to
deal with viewing pages with margins makes navigating the document difficult
if not impossible.

Note: this isn't an issue where word is only showing the place holders or
image outlines. These are both settings under Word's options... these
options are set to display images, not placeholders of outlines... Word 2007
will not diplay anything what so ever when I am working in Docx format. When
I save the document into "compatibility mode" for Word 2003, then I can view
the images.

Does anyone in the world of Word MVPs or anyone at Microsoft have a solution
for this? It's such a hassle that i may as well just stick with Word 2003
and sell Office 2007 as it offers me no advantage if I have to continually
work in 2003 format.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

THANK YOU! I have been trying for MONTHS to get the Horizontal Ruler to stop "disappearing"! Why isn't this in HELP? Or if it is, why isn't there a link in HELP that is triggered by the word "Ruler"??

If I go on the document where the ruler is supposed to be it will give me two arrows and if I wait the ruler will diplay as long as I keep my mouse there. This is very annoying because I can't use the ruler for setting my tabs -- I can't see anything

There is some confusion here. You say "the ruler at the top of th
document", and then you say "Vertical ruler". The ruler at the top o
the document is the horizontal ruler, not the vertical ruler.

I assume that you really want the horizontal ruler

In Word 2002, you make the horizontal ruler visible by setting View
Ruler. (NOT Tools | Options | etc!) If you clear this option but hav
Tools | Options | General | "Provide feedback with animation" checked
the ruler auto-hides. If you clear both options, the ruler is no
     visible

Word has a nasty habit of changing your option settings for you. I
has been reported that recording a macro to turn off options i
spelling and grammar checking will incidentally turn on "Provid
     feedback with animation"

There is a long-standing bug that sometimes causes both rulers t
disappear if you are in Print Layout View and you create a selectio
that extends across a page boundary

If you really want the vertical ruler

This ruler is available only in Print Layout View; and then only i
Tools | Options | View | "Vertical ruler" is checked. In Word 2002 th
vertical ruler disappears even in Print Layout View if you use th
"hide white space between pages" feature
