I'm trying to use callouts to highlight parts of graphics. The graphics are "in line with text" and the callouts are "in front of text." Whenever I make an adjustment to the angle of the pointing arrow, the callout jumps to the right. Whenever I move the callout back into position, the other callout moves. I can't get both where I want them. This didn't happen in XP or 2000. Our office hasn't installed SP1, but I can't find anything about this being a bug or being repaired in SP1.

I am trying to put together machine operating procedures which include diagrams and photos. The problem I am having is labeling the photos. I've inserted the photo and have placed an arrowed leader but I cannot label the leader. I would also like to put balloons around letters or numbers. I can place the balloon on the document (from auto shapes) but I cannot put anything in the balloon.

set autoshape defaults for all new documents

Postby VG9t » Sat, 24 Sep 2005 08:14:02 GMT

Is the option to set autoshape defaults to a drawing element like a line or a
text box stored in MS Word 2003 for all new files or does it only apply to
the active file?

That is, i seem to lose the default confgiuration of my drawing elements.
For example: I create a line, the line is invisible because my background is
white and the line color is set to "no line". I change that setting to black.
then I select the optioin to set autshape defaults. then I create a text box
next to the line (which is pointing to something). Again, i have to modif the
settings to what I want and set autoshape defaults.

So, finally I open or create a new document... I have to repeat all the
changes again to the format of the autoshapes.

Is this a bug or can I fix my formats so they are the real "defaults"?
Besides, why would the default format for a line is "no line" ?

Thx

If you set the defaults in a document, they are the default for only that
document. To make them the default for all *new* documents, you must make
the setting in the template (Normal.dot by default). But note that the
"line" style applies to both drawing lines and text box borders, so if you
want text boxes with No Line, you can't also have drawing lines that show
up. And, FWIW, the factory default format for lines/text boxes is NOT No
Line but 0.75 pt black.

Thank you. ... now why did Microsoft make the line style apply to both single
lines and text box lines... nevermind, just making a point, hehe :)

1.Format Text Box - "Set AutoShape Default"

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

All,

Is this another bug in Word 2008?

- Create a text box, with a line border of 0.76.
- Right click on the text box, and select "Set AutoShape Defaults"

Now, try creating a new text box. Do you get a line border? [I don't]

I've tried editing the Normal.dotm file, fiddling with different settings, but I can't seem to figure out any way to set text boxes to have any line border by default.

Very frustrating.

2.set AutoShape default does not work

I am trying to resize my default autoshapes in Word so that they are not so
large every time I insert one, however when I resize it to the way I want and
click on resest autoshap format, it does not I work, the next time I insert a
shape, it goes back to the same size. I tried going through theses steps
even in the normal.doc template, then saving it and it did not fix the
problem. What am I doing wrong? I am using office 2003.
thanks in advance for advice...

3.Autoshape Content is copied to each new autoshape

Hi, hopefully someone has the answer to this one!
First I create an autoshape in Word. Then add text to it.
Next, I create a NEW autoshape and voila, the SAME text
appears in the new shape. If I select text in one shape
BOTH are selected. The shapes are NOT linked.

Any suggestions??

much appreciated
