I use images and pictures in making layouts for newsletters. All of a sudden I cannot see the images that I insert on Word documents. They appear on the print preview screen, and they print..but are not on the screen document. I think I must have inadvertently changed a setting somewhere, but I cannot determine what or where it is. I am using Microsoft Word from Microsoft Office XP Standard version 2002. HP Pavilion Computer and Windows Millenium

- 1. Upgraded to Office XP, not able to view pictures in word & color .
Upgraded to Office XP Professional (OS is Window XP Professional), all inserted pictures and coloured text boxes cannot be viewed on previous word document (prepared in same office version), but could be viewed under preview function. Inserted clip arts are OK. When click on the picture location, it recognizes the picture is there, so bring picture to the front, picture reappears, but again disappears after bringing another picture up front. Colored text boxes only show the text, when right click to format, the color and line fill show blank and not the actual color of the box. I had already unchecked the picture placeholder and checked drawing under option, also updated Office SP3. I have no problem with the previous computer running the same system. I already went in to start >run >command to check CD is not damaged and it did indicate Office was successfully installed. I am thinking is a set up issue. Thanks. - 2. Back in the day, when I has MS Word 97, the clipart gallery was easy to use, and thumbnails of all images were clear and actually showed up. NOw, I have MS Word 2003. The Clipart gallery is scrunched up inot a little sidebat to the left of the screen, and none of the images show, each image (after a search)has a picute of the Windows Media Player icon, and under it, each one says "dglxasset". Whats wrong with the MS Wrod 2003 Clipart viewer? It's terrible. i would almost like to go back to '97 (more stable, better clipart, ETC). Anyone have the same probelm? Or anyone know how to fix it? Using Word 2000 If I have some text formatted with a paragraph border and the insert a graphic into it, the paragraph border disappears when the graphic is turned into a floating graphic and positioned next to the right or left margin. I would be VERY grateful for any help. (I have tried every combination of keyword in Google but not found anything specific to the problem on any of the "help" sites or forums, e.g. MVPS). TIA

If the images/pictures are floating (not formatted as inline-with-text), then they are only visible in Print Layout view (not Normal view). Click on View | Print Layout. If the images/pictures are still not visible on screen, then click on Tools | Options | View | uncheck the "Picture placeholders" box | check the "Drawings" box | OK.

I have also just encountered this problem since installing Windows SP2, I can get them to appear by selecting picture format, slecting 'No Fill' again, but when I scroll off the page they disappear again. newsletters. All of a sudden documents. They appear on the screen document. I somewhere, but I cannot Standard version 2002.

Initially the image was not formatted "inline with text", but following your suggestion failed to solve the problem. Even when I formatted "inline with text", the image is only visible intermittently; i.e. switch to Print Preview & it's visible, zoom in - it disappears, zoom out - still not visible, switch back to editing mode - it's visible again. -- Wercs. Yes, turning down Hardware Acceleration to the point of disabling DirectX seems to have resolved the issue. Now all we need is MS to come up with a proper fix <g> Regards, -- Wercs. (rot13 email)

I had the same issue. I use Windows 2000 so it is not an XP service pack issue-- at least not for me. Regardless turning the Hardware Acceleration to the point of disabling DirectX , worked for me. thanks!!!

I had solved my problem and kept the acceleration high and able to view the pictures, If you have the same card as mine, ATI Radeon 9600PRO, go to ATI site to use their CAT UNINSTALL to uninstall, then reinstall the latest driver issued on January. One other person just solved his problem doing the same, the first restart might not work, after the 2nd or the 3rd, it should.

Pictures and drawings that I have inserted in previously created or newly created Word 03 documents don't appear on the screen after Acrobat 6.0 was installed. 3.Objects/Pictures don't appear in Word
When I insert a picture or an object in a Word 2002 document, all that appears is a box, or, when clicked, handles of the object. The picture/clipart itself does not appear in regular, print or web mode. However, when I do a print preview, I can see the picture or object. Unfortunately, I cannot edit the picture or object in the document, so I can't move it or anything. I have the latest patch to Word 2002 and Windows XP Professional. 4.Pictures or Graphs don't appear when I open a Word Document
I use different word templates to create newsletters and flyers. For some reason with my copy of word my Pictures or Graphics don't always appear when I open a document. I can see a blank space and outline if I click on it. Sometimes they'll appear when I do a print preview. They always always print correctly and like I said can see the outline of where they should go but just can't see them all the time. Is this a refresh or load time issue?? I'm sure there is a setting somewhere that I haven't found. I'm running a pentium 1.8 with with 768 ram, windows XP pro, and Office 2003. My computer isn't slow, b ut I know the same document immediately loads fine on other machines, so I "assume" it's an office setting somewhere. Thanks
