Tab inserts tab instead of changing outline level
by londonmandy » Fri, 05 Mar 2004 04:07:06 GMT
In outline numbered mode when I am at the start of a line and hit th
tab key I get a tab character inserted instead of moving to the nex
outline level.
The only support docs I can find are about having to hit shift-tab i
you WANT a tab character inserted. Moving to the next outline leve
seems like it's supposed to be the default but it's not working. I
used to work but I can't recall having changed any settings that woul
have caused it to stop working.
I'm using Word 2002. Any help much appreciated.

On the AutoFormat As You Type tab of the Tools > AutoCorrect
dialog box, make sure that "Set
first and left indent with tabs and backspaces" is selected.

Thanks very much. The curious thing is that I have no recollection of having
changed this. But this is just what I needed.

2.Tab and Shift-tab doesn't change outline level, it just tabs over
I thought that if you are doing an outline with automatic numbering, the
effect of pressing tab would be to increase the level and pressing shift-tab
would decrease the level. But when I press the tab or shift-tab, all that
happens is that it inserts a tab character, which I thought was supposed to
happen only when one presses ctrl-tab. Is there some setting that has gone
awry/
3.Tab and Shift Tab no longer work to move bullet and outline levels
I used to push tab and shift tab to make the bullet levels move, but now it's
not working. I push tab and it just inserts a tab and doesn't move me to the
next level. Is there any way to fix this?
4.Word 2003: Tab or Ctl + Tab no longer change list levels
Hello all,
Looks like Word has stopped using a press of the tab key to change the
indent level in a list. When I hit tab, the cursor simply jumps a tab space
over with the list level remaining right where it was. Any suggestions on why
it's doing this and how to put it back to normal?
Many thanks
5.The TAB key and SHIFT+TAB won't change the list level
The TAB key and SHIFT+TAB won't change the list level in Word 2007. Instead,
both commands will just indent with a normal TAB. How can I fix this?
