  • 1. MSN Messenger 7.5 problem and one possible solution
Just in case this has not been discussed earlier: For a long time I had the same MSN Messenger 7.5 problem which many have described here. Followed every instruction: nothing worked, just the number if the error changed once (81000XXX... something). Finally I found the solution: my firewall blocked the connection. So what? Check your firewall settings is one of the first instructions given? But the ZoneAlarm had for some obscure reason went to hidden mode. It didnt show at all in lower right corner taskbar. So each time my programs were updated, they stopped accessing internet. So try this: go to program files, see if you have Zone Labs folder. You ay have forgot it... if so, open Zone Labs -> Zone alarm and double-click zonealarm.exe. Then try some program which has recently stopped working, like my MSN Messenger did as I updated it. Zone Alarm should now ask whether it gives the updated program an access to internet. Click yes, and if it works, youe done. Your problem has been the same as mine: in hidden mode Zone Alarm does not ask for your permission to let a modified program to acces internet. I still haven't found the way to make Zone Alarm visible in taskbar. I have to make it visible manually each time clicking it in its folder. Olli Orkoneva
  • 2. icons in messenger vs 7+7.5
I've got a NON MSN/user created icon in my messenger emoticon 'folder' and want to save it to my pictires folder so I can use it in posts/emails etc. I can't figure out how to do it - cut n paste/copy n paste doesn't work and because its animated - taking a screenshot and editing isn't an option. I got the icon from another user by highlighting -> right click -> add, in memory when vs 7 came out - when installing 7.5 the emoticons automatically carried through.
  • 3. Cannot Access MSN Spaces
Hello, At the computer at work, I can easily access the MSN spaces of my buddies by clicking on their card. However, with the computer at home, after I've clicked on the photos or their blogs on their card, an IE windows will pop up alright, but it seems it's forever stopped at accessing g.msn.com, and it never gets rediverted to the proper page. And so I'm stuck with a blank page while the status bar shows that it's still trying to access g.msn.com. What will the problem be??? Help. Thanks. Herbert

Error while installing MSN Messenger 7.5

Postby barcaroller » Thu, 28 Dec 2006 08:49:48 GMT

Whenever I try to install MSN Messenger 7.5, I get the following error
message:

"MSN Messenger setup has failed with error code: '1635."

Does anyone know what this means and how I can get rid of it? Please note
that I am not interested in installing MSN Messenger Live (i.e v8.0) at the
moment. Using Windows XP HE SP2.

Greetings,

Are you using or have used any version of Messenger in the past on this PC?

Yes, I used Windows Messenger 4&5 and then MSN Messenger 5&6&7. I then
installed MSN Messenger Live, had some problems with it, and tried to go
back to MSN Messenger 7.5. No luck. Please note that I am able to use
Windows Messenger 5 at the moment.

Jonathan
How/where do I download a copy of MSN Messenger 7.5 but NOT Messenger Live?
I have never been able to use Windows Live Messenger (version 8). When I
attempt to login, I just get the spinning buddies for ever and ever. I have
tried every fix, including your 'policies' registry update but nothing works.
I posted my continuing problem on various threads but I never heard back from
you or anyone beyond that registry update. Tonight, three months after I
first experienced the problem, I thought I'd give it another go and
downloaded Messenger Live all over again. Same thing - those buddies have
been spinning for the last 30 minutes. No error codes or messages, just
spinning buddies. Can I get some more 'personal' help on this problem?
Messenger Live works on my other computer no problem. [For information, when
I tried the Messenger Live BETA, I had a similar problem, but only when the
'remember me/remember my password' boxes were checked.]

Now, I have no access to Messenger - I can't login to Live (version 8) and
can't obtain version 7!

Thanks, this is enormously frustrating.

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to install messenger 7.5 and I get a
windows installer script error, followed by a 1603 error. No anti-spyware of
any kind is running. Have installed latest copy of Windows Installer 3.1 and

The text from the event log is as follows

Can anyone shed any light on this, it is very perplexing and annoying.

2.deleting or re-installing Msn Messenger 7.5

I have been trying to delete msn messenger 7.5 and I've been through many of
the web sites online which tells you how to delete it, I've meddled with the
registry and I think all the messenger keys and files are deleted but I am
having trouble removing it out of the add/remove programs.

And another problem is when I try to re-install, an error message comes up
with the code 1635. I have no idea what do now, I think I've done everything
except re-formatting the computer and I don't really want to do that. Is
there any way I can delete it completely and re-install msn messemger?

4.Lost Ability to Install and Uninstall Msn Messenger 7.5

5.Installing Messenger 7.5

Hello,

I recently upgraded from version 4.7 to the latest 7.5
However, the program failed to upgrade my existing messenger program and i
had two versions installed. this caused a conflict not allowing either to
work.

i have successfully removed version 4.7 (all files including the DLL files)
from the hdd, however, after re-installing, version 7.5 will still not login
at all. I assume theres still a conflict in the system somewhere?
Any help in getting Messenger back online, without a dreaded re-format :) ,
would be much appreciated.

 Cheers,
 Stu
