1.Round robin packet routing

Hello all,

Again, I have another question. Ok, coming into us, we have four DSL
modems (short of running leased lines 50km or setting up a wireless
link, it's the best we've got). Our provider will be providing us a /24
subnet for our customers; for load balancing they say that with their
Cisco routers they will use a round robin method of sending out the
packets through the four modems to us. This sounds cool, and I assume
that our Linux router will simply take the packets in from the four PPP
interfacing and route them through our local network interface (provided
that it's on the subnet of the packets coming in and
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward has been echoed "1").

But my question is, how do I set it up so that any packets going from
our customers to the internet are round robined out of the four DSL
modems. Right now we are giving our customers private IP addresses and
using the "ip route replace default equalize nexthop.." of doing things
but that round robins the routes, I believe, not the packets. Since all
the traffic has the destination flag set to whichever of the four modems
that the route is set to, this seems like the correct way to go iwht the
private addresses, but with our new system where the destination flag
will be set to a public address on our subnet, how do I make linux round
robin the packets?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin Brown

2.Round Robin and BIND

Hi Everybody ,

I tested to run round robin on BIND ( old version 9.2.3 I guess ) but I saw
that bind is sending request to nodes not equal . Anybody have a knowledge
about this ? Maybe in new version it starts to work much better ? or any
advise :-)

Thanks

3.How to reduce the number of IP address returned when resolving a big round robin DNS entry

hi,
A create an round robin entrie (IN A) with more than 50 address IP return
my DNS client can accept up to around 29 entries and doesn't like truncated
message

Can BIND is able to reduce the number of IP returned to DNS client whitout
sending truncated message ?

4.What happens when TCP receives a syn packet for an established connection with different sequence number

HI all,

What happens when TCP receives a syn packet for an established
connection with different sequence number than that of original used
in established connection ??
Does it simple discard it ?? Assuming it is duplicate syn packet (lost
somewhere in the network traffic)
without noticing the sequence number ??

or

Does it send RST in response after checking that this sequence number
is different ??

I tested this with simple program , which sends a syn request using raw
sockets for an established
connection. But i could not catch any response from server TCP( with
ethereal). I have come to conclusion that TCP just discards suck packet
whatever its sequence number may be.

But want to confirm this.

5.DNS Round Robin and ViewState

Hi All.

I have a web site that is currently using DNS round robin as a poor man's
load balancer. Some users are receiving an 'Unable to Validate Data' error
when posting back to the server. I've been assured by my network guys that
the client will not go to another IP address for the site for the life of the
browser session. Is this true?

I cannot reproduce this problem in my dev environment which does not have
dns round robin setup so it has been dificult to test solutions. Should I
look to have each searver using the same <machineKey .../> or something
similar?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
