Color Charts Print Black and White

Postby arbytech » Sat, 08 Jan 2005 04:52:19 GMT

I have a Word 2003 document with charts linked from Excel. The charts
are in color and look correct when in Word or Print Preview. However
when they print the charts come out in B&W. I have tried this with
three different printers and two different computers.
Any ideas or thoughts or questions would be greatly appreciated?

Do you have a color printer? And if so is it set to print color and not
Monochrome?

The printers I have tested our an old HP Deskjet 672C and a large Xerox
DocuCentre with a Fiery 2000 controller. They are not set to BW or
monochrome and both are color printers.

Those are the issues that I know will produce that result with the
described symptoms. Sorry. Toggling "B&W" for the Chart itself rather
than "Automatic" causes the "Preview" to turn "B&W" also.

1.Printing patterns in black & white printing to a color printer

I have formatted some cells on a spreadsheet which I need
to print as black & white on a color printer.
I need to do this by setting the Black and White tick box
on the 'Sheet' tab of the File/Page Setup dialog.
But patterns do not print if Black and white is selected.

There are reasons why I need to do this from inside Excel
rather than tell the printer driver to print greyscale.

Is there any way to tell Excel to print patterns when
printing as black & white?

Much appreciated.

2.Black & White Printing - S/B color

I have an excel chart that is color and when I preview it
or print it from MY computer, it is color. However, when
I open it on any other computer, the preview is black and
white and it will print in black and white, even though
when the print dialog box is open, the view of the chart
will change to color and when the dialog box is closed,
it goes back to b&w.

The Page Setup>Sheet Black and White checkbox and Print
Quality checkbox are both un-checked.

Any ideas how to fix this problem?
Thanks!

3.Printing Color-Coded Worksheet in Black & White Mode in Excel 2003

I work with farily complex Excel worksheets which require print outs
as both hard copy and PDF. I normally keep the formatting as they are
and select [Black and White] in [Page Setup] [Sheet], as this
preserves the integrity of the financial model while printing out a
clean copy for the enduser.

However, this function basically converts everyting color-coded to
black & white, including cell shading patterns; I normally accentuate
certain important cells by shading them in black and using a white
font color. While I want the output to be black & white, I do want
to preserve this particular formatting pattern. Is there any way to
preserve this, perhaps through conditional formatting or other tricks?
Thanks very much.
