  • 1. Installing already downloaded updates
The update icon on the task bar shows updates need installing, when clicking on the install updates icon, I receive the message "The following updates were not installed" Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) & Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter 2003 (KB942571) and neither appear in add/remove programs. Checking my automatic update settings shows automaticlly download and install programs. I am not sure how to proceed, any help would be appreciated. Thank you Joco (London)

1.error 1706 running Office 2000 in Windows XP Home

Program is loaded. No problem starting in administrator
log in. On a different user, starting Excel results in
error 1706, but after clicking OK, Excel starts. What's
the glitch?

2.Access 2000 on Win XP error 1706

I have just replaced some old win98 machines with new winXP Pro SP2 machines
on a SBS2000 network. I then installed existing copies of MSO2000 Pro as
administrator, installed all recommended updates etc from microsoft.com

The problem I have is when I try to open access via a desktop shortcut or by
double clicking the file on a network drive I get the following error:

Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product microsoft office 2000
sr-1 disc 2. Windows installer cannot continue. I press OK then get a message
that states fatal error installing.

However, if I first open access and then navigate to the database I want to
open, it works fine?

This is ok for me as an admin, but I don't want users navigating to the file
in that manner.

How can I fix this (btw..when installing office I selected ALL items to run
from my computer).

3.Error 1706 with New Users with Win 2000

Hi,

I recently deployed Office 2000 on a Windows 2000
computer. I installed it with the Run All from My
Computer option.

The trouble I am having is when a different user logs onto
this computer and runs any of the Office programs, the
user gets an error 1706. I updated the Office install to
SP3, with no positive solution.

I have tried the install both locally, and over the
network with no difference between the 2.

I have reviewed the articles at the support site, but I
have been unable to find the solution.

Does someone have the fix? Or could you direct me to
where I could find it?

Thanks.

4.Error 1706 limited user Office 2000 in Windows XP

I have searched around quite a bit and can't find any answer to this. I
installed Office 2000 and all the Office updates right after Win XP (both
Professional) and all its updates (except Service Pack 2; work doesn't trust
it yet & has a supplementary application to do most of the security things it
does). Whenever I try to use an Office application as a limited user, a
little window appears claiming Office is searching for install files and then
spits out an Error 1706, can't find whatever it's looking for. I press
Cancel, the situation repeats usually 3 times total, and then the application
starts. If I've launched it by double-clicking a document, the document does
not show up, although I can use Open and find it. It appears to just be a
nuisance. I had the problem as an administrator but when I used Detect and
Repair it fixed that.

Do I just live with this or run everything as an administrator or what?

5.Office 2000 on Windows XP, error 1706

I've installed Office 2000 Professional on Windows XP Professional.
Afterwards I upgraded to Office 2000 SP3. Everything works fine until
a different user on the same machine tries to launch Office. The
different user has administrator privledges and gets "error 1706"
after Office tries to install SP1a (asks for the service pack and
origianl CD). The user already administrator privledges but I still
tried setting AllowLockdownMedia=1 in the registry, stil the same
problem. Microsoft's knowledge base offers no solution.

Any ideas? It's a major pain to run Office 2000 from a user account
that didn't originally install the program. Windows XP claims to be
backwards compatable with 2000 apps.

Thanks, SM
