whenever I save to a network share. In this case a folder redirect that has a large amount of files in it I experience a timed freeze when typing the name of the new file in the file name text box of the save as dialogue box. depending on the size of the share it could take up to ten seconds for the name that I just typed to appear. I've noticed that when working locally or switching the initial save location typing the name and then chossing the path works fine. does anyone have any info on this? BTW it only happens in OFFICE applications

  • 3. Unable to open files created in Office 2002 in upgraded 2003 insta
I've got a machine here running W2K, SP3 that I recently upgraded from Office 2002 to Office Pro 2003. Since the update, I've not been able to open any files created in 2002 without first having to email them away, and then have them emailed back and resaved to disk. Once that' done, it seems to work fine. I'm not having any issues with documents created since the upgrade. Anyone have any suggestions? I've run the repair tools, reinstalled everything, etc...I just can't seem to find what I'm missing. The exact wording of the message is: (Powerpoint used for example...happens in Excel and Word as well) "Powerpoint can't read C:\Documents and Settings\userID\My Documents\Engagements\Client\Filename.ppt" Suggestions?

4.Windows Installer starts each time that a new user starts Office 2

After installing Office 2K with Run All From My computer, as a local admin,
each new user is prompted for installation media (Data1.msi) when they launch
MSWord or Excel, etc.
Microsoft's suggested workarounds (KB 312596 ) are not viable in our
environment - they only help when an account/profile can be identified up
front, or if we force the user to take some action. The first is not
feasible, the latter is highly undesirable.

We don't know in advance who the user will be in most cases (when we do, we
can create their account in advance and manually fix it - but what a pain in
the *). More importanly, we have accounts created on the fly when a certain
type of user logs in the first time. They are assigned to local admin group.
But each new account is still prompted as in this article. We have 1,000s
of users and this is a huge headache for us!
Is this a bug or we all just missing something?

5.Starting Outlook starts Windows Installer

Every time when I open my Office Outlook Windows Installer starts and tries
to configure my trial version of Visual Studio 2005 Professional If the disk
is not in the CD drive windows Installer pops up with a window stating where
it wants to read the install file from. Fortunately I can do a double cancel
and the installer has had enough and quits. This is the only product in the
Office family that triggers this behavior.

Few moths ago I had similar symptoms with Excel. Every time I started Excel
2003 Windows Installer tried to install and configure office 2003. A file
sku112.cab was missing. I found a fix for this. In most cases it is enough to
start Excel in a safe mode but it did not work completely for me until I
suddenly got an update for my Windows Installer by Windows update besides
other thing i wont go into. In the mean time I had contacted an Excel
specialist at Microsoft who helped me somewhat.

I haven seen anything about fix for this trouble regarding Outlook and
Visual Studio though. Hope someone has this figured out

Johannes
