Help. Just bought Office 2003 Student and Teacher Edition. Only Outlook works. The others open but quit responding when I try to open files especially when I try and change document directories. Are there any known conflicts between Office 2003 Standard Edition and othe rprograms that could cause the elements to stop responding. I am running a Windows XP on a new HP Media Center computer. thanks. Bruce Pedersen 541-998-2824

Have Office 2003 installed, update tries to install SP3 for Office XP

Postby Pierre Levesque, AIA » Fri, 07 Apr 2006 13:27:15 GMT

This is really annoying... My windows update constantly comes up and tries
to install Service Pack 3 for Office XP. Problem is I have Office 2003
installed on my system and the SP3 install fails obviously due to the
version conflicts. Problem is, with Windows Update set to Automatic, it
constantly tries to install and fails therefore constantly using up my
system resourses.

I'm sure there is a registry entry that can be altered somewhere, does
anyone know how to eliminate this problem?

pls cc: responses to connarchATyahoo.com

TIA

Hi Pierre,

Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel to see if you have an Microsoft Office XP or 2002 series applications
listed as still installed.

1.Office 2003 Pro ServicePacks install fails after XP SP3 install

I am having the same problem. On a new PC with Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3
installed and a new install of Office 2007 Professional none of the updates
or Service Packs for Office 2007 will install. So far there are 10 or 11
updates. They download but will not install.

2.Automatic Updates wants to install Office 2003 SP3 on a Office 2007 site

This computer, 2003 Server with SQL 2005, Visual Studio 2005 and Office
Enterprise 2007, just had both hard drives low level formated after deleting
and creating the partitions. There should be no software history on the
drives. Everytime I do Automatic Updates, it wants to install Office 2003
Service Pack 3 plus Office 2007 Service Pack 2.

I keep denying the 2003 SP3 installation. Is this Abbey's brain?

3.Office 2003 Pro ServicePacks install fails after XP SP3 instal

Here is the temporary solution to the inability of Microsoft Update or
Automatic Updates installation failure of updates.

Solution: See KB946691

1. Download and Install KB946691

2. Manually Download and install the Office 2007 Service Pack 1 Update

3. Reboot the system

4. Manually download and install individually the remaining updates
KB931906, KB946983, KB947801, KB946974, KB950114, KB950378, KB950113,
KB951808.

5. After downloading and installing all the above reboot the system.

If you now run Microsoft Update you will now see that there are no more
additional updates to be installed.

You can also look at the Windows Control Panel / Add Programs -- System
Updates
and see that they have been installed.

6. This does not solve the problem of why Microsoft Update or Automatic
Updates for Office after installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 or when running
under Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 does not allow installation updates to
complete.

But it does at least allow one to install the updates manually and proceed
with the use of their Office 2003 and Window System.

5.Installing Office 2003 with Office XP already installed.

My main question is, what is the BEST way to migrate my outlook.pst and
archive.pst files from Outlook XP to Outlook 2003? I've heard may opinions on
this subject. Some say to import from XP pst to the 2003 pst. Others have
said to rename new outlook.pst from 2003 to another name and copy XP
outlook.pst into that location. So, if any Outlook expert could point me in
the right direction, it would be greastly appreciated. I would like to keep
all my settings, folders and all my data from Outlook XP. Thanks in advance
for you help...
