picture manager, edit pictures go blank
by U3RlcGg » Fri, 21 Mar 2008 23:44:09 GMT
Hello,
I have been using the Picture Manager with Office and have an issue. I
recently was editing some picture-contrast, saved and then returned to work.
When I open my save pictures they were blank. The name is the same with .jpg
but no image.
WHAT WENT WRONG<CAN THE IMAGE BE RETRIEVED?
HELP!

IF you saved it as a copy then you would have the first one as a backup.
If you made no provision for having a backup of the original, then you
will need to acquire another.

Thanks Bob but what I am curious about is WHY this particular time did my
pictures go blank. I have edited several photographs previously and when I
save them the image does not disappear. Yet, in this particular case after
editing them the image is gone. What was the malfuction and how could the
image just dissappear?

I suspect that the contrast somehow got forced to -100 or brightness to
+100 during the save, and then everything goes white. Once that image
gets saved over the original, then you can't undo.

Ok, I am tracking the situation....That is werid. I was working with
brightness but back the ratio up when the image did go white. But all were
images present when I saved them. What a fluke!
Thanks,
Stephanie

You're welcome, and yes some weird things happen, always remember to
work with a copy, that's the ultimate undo.

WOW!
Well who would have known that to be an issue above all else!.... Certainly
a goofup there, any way to fix that in a later SP or something?
I had tested this on a pc of one of our users, and of course computer name +
computer user = no Picture Manger, then changed the computer and BAM it works
like it should.
now i'll have to change a couple more and actually get them to use it. More
training....
Thanks for letting us know! and hope others can get around this strange issue.

3.I can't edit pictures in Picture Manager
I'm trying to compress some pictures for a web page or email. The pictures
are listed under my picture shortcuts. When I try compressing a picture and
hit "OK", nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
4.Unable to edit pictures with Picture Manager
We have users that are unable to modify pictures with the Picture Manager.
They are in the Power Users group and have full control of the directory in
which they are working. They can modify and work on any other file with
Office (i.e. doc files, power point files) with no problems whatsoever in the
same directory.
If I move the user into the Administrators group, they can the edit the
pictures without any problem.
Is there a permission issue I am missing?
Thank you
5.Pictures edited by Picture Manager do not open
I edited around 200 JPG photos with Picture Manager (color, brightness, etc)
within a folder. After finishing I clicked on 'save all' under File. I also
renamed the files. After this none of the files can be seen as photos.
Under Windows Explorer Thumbnails I only get an icon. Under Filmstrip and
Windows Picture & Fax viewer it states "no preview available" The files only
generate a box with an X under Picture Manager. Under explorer 'details' it
shows them to be JPEG files and size (around 350KB each), and date last
modified. Unlike photos in other folders which do display well, under
details it does not give the 'dimension' information. In other folders these
are 1600 x 1200. Can these 200 pictures be salvaged? Were they corrupted by
Picture Manager and lost forever?
