  • 1. How do I Transfer Upgrade Version software software to a new comp.
My old computer had MS Office loaded by Dell. I have upgraded it twice. Once with Office XP and again with Office Professional Edition 2003. I bought a new Dell and the upgrade software won't load because of an absence of the upgrade qualifying software. How do I get by this?

  • 3. Unable to disable user settings on deployment using MST
Administrative install of Office2003 PRO SP1 Deployment is done using the Custom Installation Wizard. The settings specify not to migrate user settings, yet user settings remain in cases where a different Office2003 version existed, is removed and then the new version reinstalled. In the CIW I have set: page 7 - for all features "Do not migrate previous installation state" page 9 - Migrate user settings is not selected Last page - NOFEATURESTATEMIGRATION - I have tried it with "clear property" and with "Do not match features during installation" (whatever help I could find was unclear as to what to select The current situation is bad, as users really put in a lot of junk. Sort of running a Custom Maintenance Wizard afterwards (in hope that this will stick) what can I do to make sure no user settings are migrated? Thanks, Ofra
  • 4. Phone activation not available
My problem began when a 3rd party software program is using Outlook to send a PDF as an attachment. The 3rd party's solution is to uninstall Office and reinstall it. That is all fine and dandy, not that big of a hassle, but a hassle none the less. Having about 6 copies of Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003, I wasn't sure if I grabbed the correct one for that particular machine or not. These are all OEM already installed on the Dell's upon opening them. I uninstall Office, and Reinstall, and when I go to activate Via Internet, it does indeed inform me that the product has already been activated and locks the applications tight. The next step is to click back, and register via telephone. I go to do this, but then I get nothing. No wizard popping open with numbers to read back to Microsoft nor a area to input new numbers. I called Microsoft and was informed since it's OEM, its Dell's problem, who I then call Dell and am told its MS and I am caught in a vicious loop, of which neither would like to lay claim to. I have tried uninstally and reinstalling it twice to no avail. Any Ideas or Suggestions?
  • 5. can't cancel setup
My dad tried to install the Chinese language module w/o my knowledge and w/o the setup disk. Now ,every time I open up an Office program, it searches for the setup disk. When I hit the cancel button, it gives me the message "Error 1706: Setup cannot find the required files." How can I stop my computer from trying to install programs? I use Office XP Professional. Thanks!

When you say "cannot open", what happens when you try? Does the
application just stop responding? Or do you get an error message, and
if so, what does the error message say?

ERRORS: well it first gave me a message that there is a possibility of a
virus. Which was false. Reason is that I did a complete scan from Symantic
Online also use another antivirus program which i uninstall succesfully.
Secondly it gave me a message to enable office from Symantic AntiVirus
Coporate Edition. Which there is no way you can on version 7.6.

I also contacted Dell. I tried doing the office updates and was
unsuccesful:( Tried calling tech support from LAUSD they were unsuccesfull.

With Word closed, search your hard drive for the OFFICEAV.DLL file. Include
hidden and system files and folders in your search. When you find it, note
the folder where the file is located. Click on Start | Run. In the "Open"
dialog box, type the following command (including quotes):

Regsvr32 -U "C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll"

Replace <path> with the directory path for your OfficeAV.dll file. Click on
OK. You only have to run this command once (not every time you restart your
computer). You should get the message: "DllUnregisterServer in
C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll succeeded." Your Office 2000 files should open
properly now.

2.Office 2000 Pro tries to re-install when I try to open Office docs

If I click on Document Shortcurt or filename in explorer, Office 2000 Pro
tries to install, but can't find source giving me error 1706... then a fatal
error and aborts.

If I "Open Office document" then click on the filename, it also tries to
install... gives me error 1706.. then I "X" out and cancel... but it then
opens the file.

When I save the file... it does the same thing.
It'll give me error 1706 and I cancel and "X" out.
After the 3rd try of saving... it will save the document as it should every
time.

When I check installed programs, It lists Office 2000 Professional as being
used "ocassionally" and it's last use was 10-05. I use it almost every day.
It had been running fine for the last few years... so I can't fihure out
what may have changed. Oh yeah, it does this in both Word and Excel.(That's
all I use.)

3.Office 2003 Pro installed "over" Office 2000 Pro

I have Office 2000 Pro currently installed on my computer. It was an upgrade
from Works (which is also installed). I want to install Office 2003 Pro (not
an upgarde but a full retail version). If I want maximum stability and
minimum problems, do I uninstall Office 2000 and Works first or install
Office 2003 while everything else is still on the system?

Thanks,

George

4.Installing Office 2003 Pro over broken Office 2000 Pro

Howdy;

I have an existing installation of Office 2000 Professional which was
broken by my Windows XP upgrade installation--the Microsoft Installer
data for Office 2000 was clobbered by the XP installation so the
Office 2000 In/Re/De/Un-installer will not allow itself to run.

Now I have a copy of Office 2003 Profesional sitting here on my desk
and I would like to install it.

Can I safely run the O-2003 installation, or do I need to dynamite
(how?) the O-2000 installation first?

Thanx,
Ken Leonard
