  • 4. Legal/Copyright Question
Hey all, Our company purchased copies of Office 2000 Premium and Office 2000 Small Business about a year ago, and just did a manual workstation installation on each machine (very slow, and a pain to update). The SBE installations only use Word and Excel (thinking of implemented Outlook later this year). We are thinking of re-doing them as an administrative installation, however I think it may have a legal/copyright issue attached. Are we able to create an administrative installation point from the MS Premium disks, then use that installation point for the Small Business Installations (since only Word, Excel and Outlook are being installed), or is that illegal (running unlicensed copies of Premium). Thanks, Murdoc

SETUP.EXE is not a valid Win32 application

Postby jack » Wed, 17 Sep 2003 10:59:38 GMT

I've scanned 11 pages of microsoft.public.office.setup
with no answers.

1) I was hit by the recent viruses and had to s{*filter*}
everything on my disc. I have my WINXP H.E. license. The
machine had OFFICE XP installed on the machine as well,
but it is long gone. I bought the computer through a
reputeable local source. Is there any other way to get
OFFICE XP back on my computer without buying it?

2) Having trouble with a ("SETUP.EXE is not a valid Win32
application") problem when trying to install OFFICE XP

You must get a replacement installation kit for your system. Maybe you don't
have it, maybe it is corrupt ;)

4.EXCEL.EXE is not a valid win32 application

Sometimes when I try to open excel directly, or by double-clicking an excel
file, I get the error message "EXCEL.EXE is not a valid win32 application".
The first time it happened, I tried repairing office - and that seemed to
work - but the last time, I shut down and restarted the comp and excel
started to work again. Excel seems to be the only app that does this. I use
it quite a bit, and it's giving me flashbacks to windows 95's multiple
reboots per day to keep things working ;)

I'm running office pro 2007 sp1 on vista sp1 (oh, and this started to happen
after the vista sp1 install)
