  • 1. Office 10 Folder keeps coming back
We have a growing problem with Office 2003 installs. A little background first...we work in a very large enterprise environment. We were provided, by our headquarters, a copy of Office 2003, with transforms, to use from a network share to perform clean installs. These are fresh installs versus upgrades. The computers we are loading this on are WinXP SP 1. Here is the problem...after the install is complete (along with all of the other applicable software) the Office 10 folder comes back. We cannot have this folder in the Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared becuase of "security reasons." Does anyone know why this folder keeps coming back and how to stop it from reinstalling? If any other info is required, please let me know! TIA!
  • 2. Install Office97 - Unable to register Htmlmarq.ocx in XP
just I got a new Gateway with XP Home and have not been able to install Office 97. It copies all the files and then at the end it says Htmlmarq.ocx was unable to register itself in system registry. How can I reinstall my Office97?
  • 3. Upgrade installation fails, then works
I used to use an "upgrade" edition of Office 2000 on my old computer (which has now be converted to a Linux box). Some months ago I attempted to install it on my new Windows computer, but the installation failed, because there were "no qualifying products". (On the old machine, it accepted Corel Office Suite Version 7 as a qualifying product, but apparently not Version 10 which is on the new one). BUT --- Tonight I attempted the installation again (to see if I could get further information on the "qualifying products") and, lo and behold, it succeeded. However, being scrupulously honest and not wanting to use this product illegally, I'd like to know how this happened. The only other software I've installed recently is ActivePerl, and the Intel Performance Primitives. Anyone know anything about this?
  • 4. How do I deploy with the Reading Pane off in the Junk E-Mail folde
I am deploying Office 2003 as an upgrade to Office XP. I am creating a new Outlook profile as a part of the transform. I do NOT want there to ever be a reading pane displayed on the Junk E-Mail folder. I do want the reading pane to be displayed in the other folders. Best solution: How to permantly disable the reading pane in the Junk E-Mail folder without disabling it in the Inbox and other mail folders. Second best solution: How to have the reading pane turned off by default in the Junk E-Mail folder. Thanks

Error 1706 when trying to install beta version of 2010

Postby TmFuY3lpbkNvbG8 » Thu, 03 Dec 2009 13:54:01 GMT

I have downloaded Office 2010. When I try to install the .exe file, I go
through the step of entering the product key. At the very end of the
installation process, I get an error message: Error 1706 Setup cannot find
required files.

Any suggestions?

Hi Peter,

Your sister and your mum haven't contacted me recently. Are they
still working as professional escorts? The rates have gone up
recently so it is a good idea to start again.

Please contact me soon.

Yes, I have Office 2007. I used the Custom setup and selected to keep my
current applications except for Outlook and Publisher.

Nancy

There you go. You cannot have both . Either All of the Beta but not in the same
setup as you have Office 2007 and Outlook needs to be left alone since you can
install only 1 instance of it.What you did in essence is to install the Beta over
the Office 2007 that you already had installed. That was not a very good idea.
You might need to reformat your system to get rid of the Beta that is installed so
far. That is why we always say Do Not install a Beta on a production machine

Peter, I really appreciate your advice. I thought that the custom setup
allowed you to keep your original version of Office 2007 and also install
2010. One of my friends was able to install the beta version and keep 2007.
Do you think it was because I specifically selected Outlook and Publisher as
those that could be removed. Maybe I should have just left the setting to
keep all applications on 2007. I am considering your comment that maybe I
shouldn't be installing this at all on my home PC. I am creating some
exercises that will be completed on 2010 after it is released so that is why
I need it.

Any suggestions?
Nancy

1.Office 2000 Trying to Install When I Open Outlook--Error 1706

I hope I'm in the right thread--don't know what I'm doing. I just bought
Office 2007 and preferred to keep my old 2000 email. Yesterday I was getting
rid of "extra" programs and deleted Office 2000--when I couldn't open my
email, I figured that was not a good idea. I ran a system restore and that
fixed the problem except that now every time I open my email I get a popup
that tells me that it's trying to install Office 2000 and I need to insert
Micosoft Office SR-1 disk. Selecting "cancel" does not good. I don't have
the disk; want to keep email as it is...just don't want this popup. I can
get around this by keeping my email open and just minimizing it, but that's
just a bandaid solution. I would so appreciate any help.

3.Can't install Office 2010 beta x64 after uninstalling 2010 'RTM'

I had version 14.0.4734.1000 installed (employer is partner), but it expired.
I uninstalled without any problem via the control panel, and even followed
the office 2007 manual uninstall instructions afterwards (deleting the
remaining registry keys, after checking that there were no msi packages left
to unistall, which there weren't).

The install of the beta goes without any problem, but initially every Office
application would crash upon running. The problem module being 'mso.dll'
which was left over from the RTM install and not deleted by the uninstaller.
I deleted this dll and had the beta do a repair. Now the applications start,
but the menu tabs are corrupted as well as all of the various ribbons and
menu text. For instance, there are no 'File' menus, just a tab that says
"Opening" which does nothing when clicking on it.

I uninstalled the beta and reinstalled the expired RTM. The RTM works
perfectly, but is expired.

It would seem that the RTM install makes file modifications that are not
reverted during uninstall, and these changes are not overwritten by the beta
during its installation, thus creating a kludge of beta and RTM file versions.

So, how can I cleanly remove the RTM as if it were never on my machine
(including file versions/time stamps), and install the beta and have it
function?

Thank you.

4.Installing Office 2010 Beta Language Pack on 32 bit Office 2010 RT

I have installed Office 2010 RTM on a clean copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. No
other version of Office beta or otherwise has been installed since complete
disk wipe.

When I attempt to install Microsoft 2010 Beta Language Pack, I receive the
following message:

"Microsoft office 2010 does not support upgrading from a prerelease version
of Microsoft Office 2010. Please remove any pre-release products and try
again."

I have no Office products installed except Office 2010 RTM. I am trying to
install the 32 bit language pack to a 32 bit Office 2010.

How do I proceed to install additional language proofing tools - please
advise.
