  • 1. Office XP Updates fail to install properly
When attempting to download and install Office XP updates, I am running into problems. The downloads seem to happen, but during installation, I receive "Installation Unsuccessful" with a list of the updates that were not installed. On the first 2 machines I tried to update, I received this message for Office XP Service Pack 3 for Access 2002 Runtime only, but the last 2 machines I tried failed to install any of the updates. Is there a trick I'm missing here? Thank you in advance.
  • 2. Office 2007 Ribbon Bar
I can only hope that you support the 2003 product for your corporate customer's for a very long time. The ribbon bar won't fly for us. Our test group asked if the development team ever actually worked in a real office environment? The more they voiced that question, the more it seemed to be designed by art and design students. It looks pretty, but in actual use, it isn't functional. Ask a designer for a new race car and it will look great. May not ever win a race though. Ask a crew chief to build a new race car and everything will be done with racing as it's primary function. It will leave the designer's car in it's dust while on it's way to winning the race. Microsoft needs to run "ribbons" by a few crew chiefs; leave the designers at home for awhile.

Does anyone know what kind of fonts Nascar uses for the numbers on the cars?

Compatibility Pack

Postby dGhhanVnZ2xhNDQ3OA » Wed, 17 Sep 2008 08:27:01 GMT

Hello all,

When I try to download the Compatibility pack for Office 2007, I get the
page cannot be displayed error. Did Microsoft move away from this utility?
Or is there an alternate location for me to be able to download the product.

Thank you,

Brett

1.Office Compatibility Pack Problems with Excel

I have updated Windows XP and Office 2000 using Microsoft Update.

Then I installed the Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.

Now I can open a .docx file with Word 2000 but I get the error 'The file is
not in a recognizable format' when I open a .xlsx file with Excel 2000.

How do I solve this error problem with Excel 2000?

2.Error with Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office

I am trying to open a .xlsx file. I am using WinXP Prof. SP3, Office 2003
SP3 (Excel is on v 11.8316.8221). I have installed the Compatibility Pack
for 2007 Office, as well as SP1 and SP2. The Compatiblility Pack is at v
12.0.6425.1000

I have received the xlsx file as an email attachment, and saved it to my
desktop. When I try to open the file, I first get an error message saying:

"Windows cannot find <path\filename>. Make sure you have typed the name
correctly..."

After about 2 seconds I can see the converter trying to scan the file, then
I get a message saying "The converter failed to save the file."

If I have Excel open prior to attempting to open the file, there is no error
message saying windows cannot find the file, however the excel error message
changes to "The converter failed to OPEN the file."

I have removed (Via control panel) the Conversion tool and re-added it with
SP1 then SP2, but still having same issues.

3.Excel 2000 with Compatibility Pack can't Save As Excel 2007 docume

I have a user who is using Excel Services with MOSS who needs to modify a
workbook and save it back to MOSS. The user only has Excel 2000, and Excel
Services requires the workbook to be in Excel 2007 format.

I've installed the compatibility pack and we are able to open the Excel 2007
workbook (opens as a Read-Only file "Xl0000001" workbook). However, when I
try a Save As... there is no Excel 2007 format in the "Save As Type" combo
box.

If I open Word and open Save As..., I see the Word 2007 formats. If I open
Excel (by itself) and open Save As..., I do not see the Excel 2007 formats.

Is there an issue with the compatibility pack?

Carl.

4.COMPATIBILITY PACK FOR 2007 FILE FORMATS

I downloaded and installed the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word,
Excel and Powerpoint 2007 file formats. When I make changes to an existing
excel spreadsheet (Excel 2002 SP3) , save & close the spreadsheet, then try
to open that spreadsheet again, I can't get back into the spreadsheet. I get
the following message: The document may be read-only or encrypted.

5.xlsx won't open with compatibility pack

Windows XP, Office 2003 sp3, Compatibility Pack.

We have one user who is unable to open xlsx files even though the
compatibility pack is installed. She first gets an error that says the file
type is not a recognized format. THEN the file opens in excel, but the
characters are all "garbage".

She is able to open any other 2007 file - both Word and Powerpoint are
functioning as expected. Other people can open the same files that she is
unable to. It's not limited to a particular file - no xlsx files open for
her.

She doesn't have this problem on other PC's. We haven't yet verified, but
it seems likely, that anyone else working on her PC would have the same
problem.

If at all possible we'd like to avoid a reimage.
