  • 2. Office 2003 updates redux
Running XP Home, Office 2003, and Publisher 2003 (a recent installation). I previously ran Publisher 2000 but that seemed to be causing an update problem with Office. MS tech told me that uninstalling Pub 2000 and installing retail version of Pub 2003 would solve things. I uninstalled Pub 2000 through add/remove and rebooted. Them did an online scan for Office updates and received the message all was up to date. Installed Pub 2003, the complete installation- not the typical. All seemed to be going well until I ran another online scan for updates. I was told I neede to install Office 2003 Service Pack 2. Clicked agree and install but the download never completed. Rebooted without allowing my NAV 2005 or Spysweepewr to start but got the same results. The latest installer, 3.01, is installed according to add/remove. Also I may have Service Pack 2-there is a file named MAINSP2ff with an Update ID {FFB59000-EB47-45BC-842A-EFFBDA635C94} TIA Harmon Koeltz
  • 3. How can I download Office 2003 SP2 update over dial-up?
The update is huge (~45M) and takes hours. My ISP doesn't stay continuously connected that long (3+ hours), and each time it drops the download stalls. No way to resume once the connection comes up again, so I have to start over. 3 tries now and no light at the end of the tunnel. Why doesn't the download just pick up where it left off?
  • 4. If I remove Office 2007, will it leave my old Office version?
When I installed Beta of Office, my old Office appears to have been overwritten. The new Beta is too slow and I want to get back to my old version. Will uninstall of the Beta leave the older version of Office intact?
  • 5. Unable to download beta2 tech refresh
Whenever I try; it tells me that download.microsoft.com cannot be found; help?

It's a problem with your firewall. See
 http://www.**--****.com/ "'Warning: You are viewing
this page with an unsupported Web browser' warning message appears when
you visit the Office Update Web site".

Please help... I am having problems installing updates & add-ins, repairs to Microsoft Office XP
Small Business. I have at some point used Doug Knox's XP_Remove_Hotfix_Backup.exe (Removes Hotfix
Backup files and the Add/Remove Programs Registry entries). Do I also have a corrupted Windows
Installer?

The errors I have been encountering are (sorry for the long post):

Error at 40% of progress bar during checking for updates scan

The Office Update site is unable to check for updates on this computer. This may be happening
because of one of the following reasons:

You do not have administrative privileges for this computer.

There is a network problem and the detection catalog used by the Office Update site failed to
download. Go back to the Downloads home page and try running detection again.

Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) from previously applied Office updates are missing from
the \Windows\Installer hidden directory on your computer. MSP files are stored on your computer
after update installation completes because they need to be referenced for future update operations.
If the files are missing you will not be able to apply Office updates. You may also be unable to
uninstall Office products as a result of the same problem. Please contact Microsoft Product Support
for assistance.

You installed Office updates in the past and then upgraded from Windows Installer version 1.0 to
Windows Installer version 1.1. For more information see the KB article Windows Installer May Prompt
for Install Source if Unavailable.

2.Office update detects update for Office XP and I have office 2000

Office update detects update for Office XP and I have office 2000 as well as
XP as the OS.

What Office XP components might it be detecting? I updated Outlook from the
distribution CD as part of installation of ActiveSynch 3.7.1 for my Dell AXIM
X50v PDA.

Are there any problems applying the Office XP updates in this circumstance
as I have only Offfice 2000 components installed and in use?

3.Office update detects update for Office XP and I have office 2

There is nothing obviously Office XP.

I have tried to send a screenshot but it doesn't paste here.

Perhaps you could tell me what I might see apart from Office 2000.

4.Windows updates trying to update Office 2007 with Office XP

I have Office 2007 on Win Vista Home Premium. The auto updates is suggesting
I should download and update Office XP Service Pack 3. Everytime I cancel it,
it comes back after a while. Since I have Office 2007 it shouldn't tell me to
update Office XP, right?

How can I definetely terminate this update atempt without preventing further
updates?

5.Office update pushing Office XP updates on my system which has Of.

My wife's system has Office XP installed on it. She is only offered Office XP
updates.

My system has a version of Office 2003 installed on it. I am offered both
Office 2003 and Office XP updates. I have successfuly installed the Office
2003 updates, but Office Update keeps pushing Office XP updates at me despite
the fact that they cannot be installed on my system.

This appears to represent a clear error in the logic for Office Update.

6. Downloaded Office XP update instead of Office 2003 update
