  • 1. administrative installation point
We created an administrative installation point with Office XP and updated the installation with all the service packs and hotfixes. We can push out to our clients on our network through the GPO, this works fine. We want to send out the disk to our dial up users. But the space used by the administrative installation is over the amount of one CD. How do we split up the files into 2 CD's or is their a way to use only one CD for our dial up users?
  • 2. updating Office XP ... searching for new updates
Hi, I'm running Windows XP Pro and Office XP Pro. When I try to search for new updates, it comes up saying I need to install SPs for Office 2000. Why is this happening? I don't need to install these do I? The reason I was looking for updates is because PowerPoint keeps freezing when I bring up the "Open" dialog box. I was hoping there was a fix somewhere. Any ideas? Thanks Sonia

My copy of windows 98 ate most of my .dll files. I have re-installed win98. After the re-install, Office 2000 would not run. I have re-installed Office 2000, and attempted to apply update 2k SR 1. I get the following: Error 2331: Error loading library MSPATCHA or finding entry point TestApplyPatchToFileByHandles Internal Error 2331: Please contact product support for assistance. MSI (c) (DD:A9): Product: Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional -- Internal Error 2331: Please contact product support for assistance. How do I "fix" this?

Hi, Sharon;

Can you give a few more details? For example:

1. What updating did you do? What version of Office are you using now, and
what version were you using before?
2. Do the documents physically exist on your hard drive? Can you click
Start/Search and locate the .DOC files? These are .DOC files, right?
3. What version of Windows are you using?

BTW, in step #2 above, if you find a .DOC file and double click it to open,
what happens?

Hi, sharon. Disable the Office Plugin that comes with Symantec/Norton
AntiVirus. See http://www.**--****.com/ "How to use Office
programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more information.

Sharon:
As a first step try running a repair on your Office installation, go to the
Help menu and select Detect and Repair (for any Office apps).
What updates did you install?
What version of Office do you have?

1.Older Word docs opening in 2008 as blank docs when opening from a http link

Has anyone seen this?

We have some Microsoft Word files on our internal site for people to
view as links. When a user with a Mac 10.5.3 using Office 2008 12.1
tries to launch the file from Firefox browser, the document opens
blank. The same happens if you use the save-as and try to open the
file directly from where it is. But, if you open Word, use the File,
Open menus, you can open it fine. Now, the files are ones that were
created before 2008, so the Compatibility Mode shows up in the window,
but I didn't think that would be an issue.

Anyone have any ideas?

3.office docs wont open for some...

...but will for others.

for example a document saved in Word 2003 by person A will open fine
for person B & C but not person D. Same for Powerpoint docs. If person
B or C opens doc and then saves immediately, then person D can open the
file!!!

This is confusing as some people are still using Office 2000 and some
2003 with or without SP1. My guess is maybe it is SP1 so i will try
this on Monday but any other ideas or known issues please?
Thanks

4.failed upgrade-old excel data wont open

Tried to download the 2003 Office Professional XP upgrade
for an older version of office. Didn't work and nowwhen I
try to open any excel function, the installer begins, asks
for disks (which I don't have) cancels and blocks access
to all of my existing excell data and to my old excel
program.

Any help???
