  • 1. Word 2002 Won't open-Says not enough memory
Windows XP, current service packs installed - on auto updates. We have a licensed version of Microsoft Works installed (2004?) with MS Word 2002 as a part of the package. All was working fine until sometime within the last week. Now when we attempt to open MS Word 2002 to a blank document or open an existing document it reports an error that we do not have enough storage or memory (presumably RAM). We have 256 MB Ram and the HD is showing 15 GB storage which is about 1/2 full on this drive. We also have a copy of Office 97 installed that has never been a problem. When we open Office 97 (Word) it opens and runs fine, and when we open any Word document with it, it also opens and runs fine. It appears that Works, and/or MS Word 2002 may be damaged. I can reinstall Works fromt he installer CD but I am also reading some threads suggesting that an update received in August from Microsoft may have done something to Word 2002 or similar versions. Anyone else having a similar problem? Will reinstalling Works clear this bug or is it Windows update related? Thanks. DMK

Office 2003 Pro SP3; XPx64 SP2 After installing the recent August 2008 security updates for the Office Sutie, none of the programs open. Attempts at running any of the Office programs cause a general error 1000 with the faulting module of MSO.dll. Two or three attempts at running any of the Office programs causes a blue screen fatal error in NDIS.sys. Removing the security updates returns the Office Suite to normal operation. Rick

Hi Shahin,

It depends on what type of patches you're referring to and if you're using a standalone or deploying a volume license keyed MS
Office 2007 product.

For volume licensed products you may be able to use the \Updates folder on the Office Network Installation Source Point or apply the
updates to the local installation source \MSOCache folder (Setup is run from that folder, not from the original files). Office 2007
uses Windows Installer patches (.MSP) files for customizations as well.
If you're deploying via Group Policy, .MSP files aren't supported directly.

You may want to look at the details in the Office 2007 Resource Kit at http://www.**--****.com/

2.Error during initial connection to Exchange via Outlook 2003

I am receiving the following error during intial Outlook
2003 setup:

Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The Microsoft
Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there
are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server
computer is down for maintenance.

The message contradicts reality, because in order to get
this message I had to authenticate with the same box
using a valid password. Then this message appears.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks,
Alan

3.Outlook 2003 slow to display messages during initial startup

Why is Outlook 2003 slow to display messages during initial startup of the
application on a brand new PC versus Outlook 2002 which displays messages
almost immediately during initial startup.

NOTE: We are using Exchange 2000 server for all our users.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sanjay

4.Unable to open Outlook on initial installation

I recently installed Office 2007 on a new computer running Vista. Somehow
during the initial launch of Outlook, before everything was configured, I
think I selected Offline. Now whenever I start Outlook it immediately gives
a message that says:

Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file C:\Users\Anne
Marie\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost is not an offline folder
file.

When I acknowledge the message, Outlook closes without giving me a chance to
change the setting back to Online. I've tried everything that I can think
of, including reinstalling Office, and it doesn't seem to work. Suggestions?

5.Unable to open Outlook after initial installation

I've just upgraded to Office 2007 from 2003, on a recently upgraded Vista
machine. On opening Outlook 2007 for the first time it looks like it will
open ok until I get a message "Failed to register a VB script DLL. Re-install
or run Regsvr32.exe Vbscript.dll to self register. An error occurred while
creating a form." and I get the code '0x80004005'. I have run repair but
still have the same issue. Please help.
