  • 1. Stop requiring CDs to update software! Windows doesn't!
I hate having to go and dig up my original CD to update. Especially for critical Security updates. Windows doesn't require me to do that. Office shouldn't either!
  • 2. Installing SP3, update looking for SBERET.MSI, but PRORET.MSI is on CD
I'm trying to install the Office SP3 Update on my copy of Office XP. When the installer runs, it asks for the Office Small Business Edition CD (with the file SBERET.MSI). However, I installed Office XP from the Office XP Pro Upgrade CD (to upgrade my copy of Office 2000). So the Office XP CD that I have has PRORET.MSI, not SBERET.MSI. Therefore, the update refuses to run. My original Office 2000 CD won't work either. What can I do? As a side note, can I add how frustrating it is for honest customers that have properly licensed the software to have to go through all this! :-(
  • 3. Make Office Updates Easier
Two things 1. Integrate Office Update with Windows Update so Office updates happen automatically 2. Remove requirement to insert Office CD every single time you install an update. It's a real disincentive to install the updates
  • 4. updates.
I am unable to run office updates on my computer. I am using windows xp sp 2.have office 2003. what can I do ?

You may want to check with the PC supplier. Sometimes they
have special 'exchange' upgrade offers available for Office.

Yes, MS Works is a qualifying product for MS Office 2003 Professional Edition.
In the case of a crossgrade it would usually be a cleaner way to go to backup your files, uninstall the first Office 2003 edition,
restart the computer then install the new edition.

I figured that was the way to go about it, my IT guy says it will screw up my
Outlook email stuff. Is this true, I usually take everything he says with a
grain of salt. At times he doesn't seem to know what he's doing.
