  • 1. Something wrong with Office Update?
Here is the situation: I am running MS Office 2003 SP3 on Windows XP Professional SP2. When I go to Office Update site, among the others following updates are listed as needed for my installation: KB943983 Security Update for MS Office Word 2003 (MS08-009) KB943985 Security Update for MS Office Excel 2003 (MS08-014) KB945185 Security Update for MS Office 2003 (MS08-013) KB946254 Security Update for MS Office pUblisher 2003 (MS08-012) KB947355 Security Update for MS Office 2003 (MS08-016) Now problem is that coresponding Security Bulletins for all these updates list MS Office 2003 with SP3 as non-affected software. So why would I need them if I have MS Office 2003 with SP3 already? As far as I can see there are several possible reasons for this: - something is wrong with my copy of SP3, - Office Update engine has some sort of error, - MS Security Bulletins incorrectly list MS Office 2003 with SP3 as non-affected software or - something else altogether My copy of SP3 file has details as follows: Name: Office2003SP3-KB923618-FullFile-ENU.exe Version: 11.0.8173 Build date: 27 July 2007 Size: 117 MB (123,368,360 bytes) Any ideas, suggestions, etc, will be appreciated.

  • 3. Word 2002 Updates in Vista
I just installed Word 2002 in Vista. The normal MS Update isn't picking anything up to update for Word 2002. Is this normal. A manual search on MS Word webpage shows tons of stuff. Is there a way to have MS do an automatic update for Word 2002 in Vista? Are there any critical updates? Most of the stuff says XP SP3 needs to be installed. I saw in another posting that SP3 may/may not be neccesary. Thanks. -- AMD 6400+ Asus M2N-Deluxe 4 gigs Corsair XMS EVGA 8800 GTX (2) WD Raptor''''''''s RAID 0 Vista 32 Premier
  • 4. Error Message - Another Installation is in Progress
I keep getting this error message when I try to upgrade Office or utilities associated with office etc. Checking the MS-Knowledge Base a cause might me multiple versions of msiexec.exe running. In task manager there seem to be 2. I can stop them running by stopping the process - but within a few seconds they have started up again. Any idea on how I can stop the other instances of msiexec.exe /or/ if that isn't the problem can SKS help out. TIA ROb

Office update pushing Office XP updates on my system which has Of.

My wife's system has Office XP installed on it. She is only offered Office XP
updates.

My system has a version of Office 2003 installed on it. I am offered both
Office 2003 and Office XP updates. I have successfuly installed the Office
2003 updates, but Office Update keeps pushing Office XP updates at me despite
the fact that they cannot be installed on my system.

This appears to represent a clear error in the logic for Office Update.

Are the updates failing for you? It could be possible these are appearing
because you upgraded from Office XP to 2003 on that computer. Feel free to
let us know what update(s) you are seeing that you don't feel apply and we
can look into it...

Thanks,
Ryan

I am elderly and simply cannot claim with assurance to never having had
Office XP on my machine before obtaining and installing Office 2003. The two
updates that Office Update is pushing are KB890839 and KB873352.

Unless those IDs (which I hopefully transcribed accurately) give you some
insight, I shall simply decline the Office XP updates (unless I find or am
given a way to make the updates quit appearing).

Thanks for responding.

You never mentioned that these actually failed when trying to install. You
probably just had something installed that was an Office XP Component a
while back.. I would recommend trying to install the Office XP Updates.
Hopefully these install correctly for you...

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Stan,

To add one bit to Ryan's reply, you may want to check
in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel to
see if there are any Microsoft Office XP or
'2002' series programs (Office XP family of applications
are in the 2002 series) listed (for example
Microsoft Publisher 2002).

If so, then Officeupdate will offer you Office XP (2002)
updates.

If you had upgraded from an Office XP edition to an
Office 2003 edition and your 2003 edition did not
have all of the programs from your earlier package then
usually the MS Installer software would have left installed
those programs for which the new edition of Office had
no replacement.

Greetings,
I have XP with service pack 2 installed. Also have Office 2003.

I keep getting an automatic update notification that there is a "critical

Should I ignore this or download it? If I should ignore it is there any way
to turn the damn thing off?

Thanks.

2.Office XP Professional User having Trouble Accessing Excel and Office Updates

I am suddenly having trouble accessing Excel and Office
Updates.

According to my profile I have the following version of
Office:

MSOffice XP Professional Version 2002 SP1

When I try to go in to Excel I get a Windows Installer
pop-up. Then its goes to Windows Installer and I get an
error message saying" the feature you are trying to use
is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Then I get Error 1706. Setup cannot fing the required
files.
The patch

I am also running into a similar problem when trying to
download the latest office updates such as the MS Word
and Excel Security patches the download says I should
install. I get the same type of message concerning
PROPLUS.MSI

3.Office XP - cannot scan for updates, install updates, repair/change office xp

Please help... I am having problems installing updates & add-ins, repairs to Microsoft Office XP
Small Business. I have at some point used Doug Knox's XP_Remove_Hotfix_Backup.exe (Removes Hotfix

Installer?

The errors I have been encountering are (sorry for the long post):

Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) from previously applied Office updates are missing from
the \Windows\Installer hidden directory on your computer. MSP files are stored on your computer
after update installation completes because they need to be referenced for future update operations.
If the files are missing you will not be able to apply Office updates. You may also be unable to

4.Office update detects update for Office XP and I have office 2000

Office update detects update for Office XP and I have office 2000 as well as
XP as the OS.

What Office XP components might it be detecting? I updated Outlook from the
distribution CD as part of installation of ActiveSynch 3.7.1 for my Dell AXIM
X50v PDA.

Are there any problems applying the Office XP updates in this circumstance
as I have only Offfice 2000 components installed and in use?

5.Office update detects update for Office XP and I have office 2

There is nothing obviously Office XP.

I have tried to send a screenshot but it doesn't paste here.

Perhaps you could tell me what I might see apart from Office 2000.
