  • 2. Office Update is unable to check for updates
When I click on the "search for updates" on Office Update, it takes me to a page called "Office Update is unable to check for updates". That page gives several reasons why, but doesn't tell me what I need to know - If I can't automatically search for updates, how do I determine which ones to install manually?
  • 3. Service Pack Updates
I have Office 2000 installed on a Windows 2000 PC, and it installed with SP1 (the help menu varifies this). Now when I go to install SP2, which shipped on a separate CD with the CDs for Office 2000, I get an error message that SP2 won't install without installing SP1 first. And if I try to go back and re-install SP1 it says it is already installed and won't try again. I tried downloading SP1a, but when I run it the same message comes up that SP1 is already installed. Any ideas how I can get SP2 installed.
  • 4. Is it possible to use Office 2003 and 2007 on same computer?
Office 2007 is a significant change from previous versions I would like to get familiar with 2007 gradually while continuing to use 2003 for my work. Can I have both versions installed at the same time?
  • 5. MSO.MSP Problems!
I believe it started when I attempted to install office2003-KB943985-v2-FullFile-ENU.exe. It eventually failed because of lack of disk space and through the following week I installed other patches. Eventually enough disk space was freed and the installation continued, HOWEVER, it couldn't find the MSO.MSP file so I got the MS Office installation disk and it couldn't find it there either. Therefore, when I attempt to run EXCEL it tries to install it and it looks for the MSO.MSP file. (All of the other Office products work properly. ) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Office Update on Office 2003 Pro WinXP Pro

Postby Sm9obiBBLiBMaXR0bGU » Sun, 15 Jan 2006 06:19:03 GMT

Hi. Each time I rebuild the machine back to SP2 of XPPro all is fine. When
the office update applies it self there are no errors with the install. "Now,
Windows Explorer has encountered an error" happens often and when it does I
can open no new windows explorer windows. To fix I either restart the machine
or kill all Explorer.exe processes and run explorer.exe This is happening
3-4 time per day.

Any ideas?

Thank you,
John

1.WinXP PRO x64, Office PRO 2003 and Local Install Source

New system running
 - WinXP PRO x64 (AMD)
 - Office PRO 2003
 - C: is a scsi system drive (OS Only) - 9G free
 - D: is a scsi drive with Program Files & Program Files (x86) - 30G
free
 - E: is 2 scsi drives striped-mirrored in software (disk manager) -
40G free

All drives are formated NTFS.

My goal is an install of Office 2003 to D: with Local Install Cache
enabled

In the installation process, I expected to see options to
enable/disable local installation source files. I did not.

After install, I expected to find the \msocache folder hidden on the
root on one drive, (probably E:, as that is were it was placed under a
WinXP PRO install) as I though the LIS was installed by default. It
was not installed.

Ran the LISTool.exe to enable the cache and it errors (after prompting
for media source) with the code 0x800700ea, no cache being created.

Any thoughts on what is going on here? Had no problems with same
hardware running under WinXP PRO.

Thanks

5.Office Update Thinks Office 2003 Pro is Office 2000

When I try to use office update it incorrectly identifies
my Office 2003 Professional Pro as Office 2000, and only
gives me access to Office 2000 updates. Argh!!! Is there
anyway to fix this, like a registry tweak?
