Hello. I have successfully installed 2k3 & 2k7 on the same machine. That was pretty straightforward, just had to roll back a few DLLs to keep 2003 working. My challenge at this point is the Compatability Pack. When I run the pack it acts as though it has successfully installed whatever it needs, but I cannot open DOCX or XLSX (etc) files in 2003. Any ideas? I can just manually copy files out of the CAB if necessary. Thanks in advance! Regards, Jim

Office Update Fails: automation server can't create object

Postby Steven Lee » Sun, 28 Dec 2003 14:09:20 GMT

I'm using Office Professional 2003 and Internet Explorer 6 with all of the
current patched in place.

While selecting "Check for updates" to automate the update process, I get a
runtime error:

Line: 698
Error: Automation server can't create object

Then I'm taken to the "Try again" page, which of course doesn't work.

I suspect the problem is with Internet Explorer. I've reinstalled it, wiped
out the temp files, and reinstalled the latest SP1 updates to no avail. I
also uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003 just in case.

I have previously use Office Update successfully in OfcXP on this same
computer.

Two recent changes may be involved. I recently installed the Google toolbar,
I recently installed SpyBot Search & Destroy. I tried uninstalling both, but
with no more success.

Any insights or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steven

5.OLE Automation server cannot create object

I am using an Accounting program called Yardi Property
Management and running a report that I want to send to
Excel. Office 97 Pro is installed. There is an Excel
icon that you can push to send it out to Excel. It works
on all other computers in the office. It has just
stopped working on this computer. This computer has
Excel installed on it and it is working correctly in all
other areas.

I get the following error message when I click on the
Excel icon within Yardi.

In a dialog box, the messages states.

OLE Automation server cannot create object.

The only other time I have seen this message is on a
computer that did not have Excel on it and I tried to run
the report from Yardi.
