  • 1. Error 1404 and 1406 - Can not remove registry key
Hi All, Please excuse my newbeeites and dumb questions. I can be connsidered a techno-novice. Apart from my general problems with Microsoft Auto Updater and Manual attempts to update my Microsoft programs my specific question here refers to my problems updating Office Professional Edition 2003 over the last few weeks. When I try to install the latest updates I get either of the error messages mentioned 1404 or 1406. Both relate to an inability to delete or modify registry keys. They also suggest I trundle off to c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\1033\PSS10R.CHM for advise. Problem is on my my machine at the moment this does reference does not exit. I can get as far as ... \1033\ but then ... \PSS10R.CHM does not exist. Any help to solve this Office Update problem would be appreciated. I have tried repairing the Office installation from the origonal disk but get the same message. I have not tried an un-install and then re-install yet ...... cause I am chicken! Thanks -- laopa Still cazy after all these years

I have office pro 2003 (it has publisher in it). When the auto updates attempt to install, it asks for the disk that contains MS office with frontpage. I don't have this and can't seem to get the updates to install without it. Any suggestions?

Internet connection interrupted during Office service pack downlo.

Postby RGFyeWw5OQ » Fri, 25 Mar 2005 11:35:02 GMT

I just installed Office 2003 Student & Teacher edition, and then went on the
Office update website to download updates. I needed Service Pack 1 and was
downloading it when the internet connection was interrupted. When I went
back to download it again, it won't let me download it (makes a funny blurp
sound)

3.Windows XP service pack 2 and Office XP service pack 3 problem

Upon installing Windows XP service pack 2 and Office XP service pack 3 I am
no longer able to mail merge a text document with a word template. Once I
removed Windows XP service pack 2, I was then able to continue using the mail
merge feature. By the way, while both service packs were installed I kept
getting a message, "find data source". Upon finding the data source and
setting the delimiters, I was still prompted to find the data source again.
Meaning I was not able to enter the main document until, I selected
Options-then Remove Header/Record data source, but this did not fix the
problem. I had to reassociate the file, then save, but when it was opened
again I was prompted to "find the data source" again. What ever assistance
you may be able to provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
