cannot install office 2003 SP2, cannot uninstall office 2003

My installation of Office 2003 SP2 via Microsoft Update froze. Two hours 
later I hit the cancel button, and it acknowledged that, but the cancellation 
didn't seem to go anywhere. I was unable to "end task" but I could log off. 
Same result with attempting to update the product from Word. I tried to 
repair or uninstall via Add-or-Remove-Programs but the error message said 
that another install was in progress. 

Another detail: the notebook came with the office 2003 trial, but I bought 
the professional upgrade. The add-or-remove-programs listing shows both  a 
copy of standard and the professional. I cannot remove either.

Any advice appreciated.

  Try doing a repair install, then try the update again: 

Method 1 Open Word, go to Help Select Detect and Repair 

or use Method 2 - 

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 
2. Click Add or Remove Programs. 
3. Click the Office program that you want to repair, and then click Change. 
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair, 
and then 
click Next. 
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair 
errors in my 
Office installation, and then click Install. 
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again. 

Most likely you will need to have your Office CD handy.

Thank you, but (as I did not mention clearly), I tried that (both ways) up 
front.  That's when I got the "another install in progress" message. I cannot 
repair, I cannot uninstall, I cannot complete the SP2 upgrade.  I am using 
the original CD.

  Rover 
1) go to word office 
2) click help 
3) click analyse en detect 
4) then long waiting because office is busy with 
configuration of microsoft office editie 
5) put the original cd of office 2003 in disc 
6) after "done" click ok 
7) you get a lot of files, cross (x) it away 
8) than you get a new screen 
search in the browser to the location for eample c: (than i don't know 
anymore what iit was, you shall see :-)) 
9) farther follow the instructions 
10) go to google "office update" and update sp2 
You see, it shall work.
You don't have to uninstall office 2003!!!!!!

Thanks for your help...
I still am having trouble trying to repair. I have two IDs on this computer, 
both with administrative privileges.  At some point in the repair process I 
see a reference to an installation in progress that must be completed first. 
At one point I was given a chance to reverse the install process, and when 
that happens the green progress bars go backwards, until they go away and the 
window seems to hang. I've tried this from both logons.  (The computer came 
with an Office trial version that I thought would have been replaced when I 
installed the 2003 Pro, but apparently that didn't happen. That install took 
place before the two accounts were created.  I don't have access to the 
original "administrator" account anymore. I wonder if that's related.)

Whenever I attempt a repair, uninstall, or update, from either account, the 
process eventually freezes up. Usually I am unable to terminate the process, 
log off, or shut down.  Sometimes I am able to hit the cancel button and it 
grays out, but the process still is frozen. I have left it alone for two or 
three hours sometimes, and there's no progress.

A brand new PC from MESH (UK). All this cr*p preinstalled that I do not
want. Try uninstalling office 2003 60 day trial through control panel.

While "Gathering required information..." is displayed, gets half way and

Try then to just install Office 2000 over it (which I own and am happy with)
no joy as it tries to uninstall first.

2.Cannot install Office 2003 SP2?

I went to Office Update and checked my machine. It was proposed to download 
and install Office 2003 Update and I agreed to do it. The final message 
notified that the installation was unsuccessful and proposed to redo, but the 
same happened...
I have Windows XP Pro with SP2 and the automatic updating.

3.I cannot successfully install SP2 to Office 2003 - Basic

A scan has proved that I have damaged registry keys which will not allow a 
successful installation (upgrade). I have tried most suggestions from the 
Knowledge date base and even tried to repair Office 2003 under - Add/Remove 
programs/Change. 

A message was received to say that the repairs had been successful, but I 
still cannot  install SP2.

Hoping someone will be able to help.

4.I cannot successfully install Office 2003 updates - Windows SP2

I have Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Office Professional 2003 - were 
installed when I got my PC in July. I can install Windows updates, but I have 
2 Office 2003 updates that were unable to be installed - after several tries. 
Contacted the PC support company (dell) to help with this, and it didn't work 
either.

One of the updates is a Office 2003 Service pack 2 and the other is a Office 
2003 update (KB907417) - both cannot be installed completely after several 
tries.

what can I do?

I tried to install office 2003 student and teacher edition onto my new 
computer which has Windows 7. It wouldn't completely install and so i tried 
to uninstall it but it give me a System Administrator note saying that i 
don't have sufficient access to uninstall this program. Any ideas? thanks
