  • 1. EXCEL 2003 Registry subkey missing
MS Knowledge Base article # 283881 addresses a problem I am having when attempting to access an EXCEL 2003 file which reads: "Could not find an installable ISAM". It says to browse to the registry subkey "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Excel" and check the path name against the actual path name. However, after a fresh install of MS Office 2003 and adding all the updates, my registry still does NOT contain the subkey mentioned in this article. I have also reinstalled Office 2003 and done a repair, but, alas, no subkey name "Excel" in the "Jet\4.0\Engines" key. What should I do to get the proper subkeys in my registry so I can stop this error message? Thanks!
  • 2. How to distirbute O2K7 sp1 to clients from an installation image
I've had a devil of a time finding concrete information on this topic. After some hours of reading various articles and white papers, I finally found it *clearly* stated that you cannot actually distribute SP1 from an installation image to clients who previously used that installation image to get office 2007 (non-sp1). In previous version you could refresh an existing installation. So, is the proper way to upgrade a client from office 2007 to office 2007 SP1 to download the full file and run it on each client machine if you don't wish to use a method like Windows Update, WSUS, or SMS/GP?

cannot apply sp2 on office xp sp1

Postby Chester » Sat, 09 Aug 2003 00:57:35 GMT

Conditions:
1. windows xp sp1 home edition, office xp pro sp1 loaded
initially from Dell
2. office xp pro was uninstalled, rebooted, and installed
back (cd contains sp1). During this step, no error occurs.
3. start on line registration using existing data previous
entered
4. applying sp2 and fail

When applying sp2 (downloaded from microsoft web site), "
The expected version of the product was not found on your
system" error message pops up. Does anyone have encounter
same problem? I cannot find similar problems in the
knowledge base. Help

Hi, Chester,

Try contacting Dell to assist you in loading SP2. It's possible that,
because it's an OEM-installed copy, Microsoft's automated update isn't set
up to deal with it...I don't know. But Dell is responsible for supporting
copies of Office that they install, so check with them first.

4.I got the message "Office 2003 SP1" Update cannot be applied"

That's what I did intially. Got update to download from download.ms. Still

before you were abel to apply the update?

5.New Mail Notice Issue w/ XP (SP1 & SP2) and Outlook (2000 & XP)

We are experiencing the following issue, similar to one that was reported
here by Jeff ( XXXX@XXXXX.COM ) on 12/30/04. Here are the details:

Problem:
----------------
Messages do not appear in Outlook inbox right away. There is a delay.
Sometimes if the user clicks another message open or highlights a folder,
all the new mail will appear in the inbox.

Background:
--------------------
1. Remote office w/ less than 50 users, connected via full point-to-point
T1, no UDP or NetBIOS filtering, all IP communications wide open - no
restrictions.

2. Workstations are XP with SP1 as well as XP with SP2 installed, firewall
disabled via registry settings in login script:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall\DomainProfile]
"EnableFirewall"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall\StandardProfile]
"EnableFirewall"=dword:00000000

3. Exchange server is 5.5, Outlook 2000 and 2002 (XP), do not have 2003.

Have researched all Microsoft TechNet KB articles dealing with UDP issues
and they do not appear to apply. The closest article matches are KB article
#'s 839226 and 319572. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
