  • 1. Where do I find the file DATA1.MSl?
I am trying to install updates and it says I am missing the file named above. Where do I find that file?
  • 2. Update Office 2003 on Terminal Server
I'm running Office 2003 Professional on our terminal server. I cannot, however, get it to update successfully (four different updates all fail). I've tried to update with and without the installation CD in the drive. I've tried to install them one at a time and all together. I've tried to use the "larger install files that do not require the installation CD". All methods result in "installation unsuccessful" message - but nothing more descriptive than that. I have plenty of room on the drive. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
  • 3. Updates looks for 2000 instead of 2003 since I upgraded
I recently added Office 2003 over Office 2000 and now when I go to updates, it looks for updates for 2000 instead of 2003.
  • 4. Assigned Tasks' updates won't open in Outlook
Windows XP SP2 Office 2003 SP2 All latest security updates installed, using WSUS. I am having trouble with a function of Outlook. In my OL2003, when a task is assigned to another person, then a Task Update is received on the originating computer, the update can be viewed in the reading pane but cannot be opened. The original task on the originating PC still opens, but is not updated with changes. This is not a feature I regularly use personally, but have been told by those who rely on it daily that it stopped working about 3-4 days ago. Incidentally, our WSUS server installed KB892843 late last week. I removed this update from my computer using the Control Panel, but it seemed to make no difference. Is this a known issue, and are there any workarounds or fixes? -- Dave Harry
  • 5. Office 2000 Outlook update won't install.
I run Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer on a weekly basis and update if necessary. This weekend MBSA said I needed an Office update. I downloaded and intalled it, ran MBSA again...still needed another update, "Microsoft Outlook update Dec 18, 2002". It is a small up date and you'd think it should be there being 4 yrs old. Well it won't install; I get 'installation unsuccessful' every time and I've tried all the suggestions. I could use some wise words if anyone has some. Thanks, Joe Abby --

Hi, Biffolos,

Check the Windows Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs applet to see what all
is installed from the Office Family. I suspect that you have some previous
versions of Office still installed and the update is looking for that CD.

See if this helps:
