I don't leave my computer on 24 hours a day, so scheduling a time for auto updates doesn't work. Add an option for Auto-update to check for updates during idle time beginning 24 hours after the last completed check for updates.

I recently got Microsoft Office. I was previously using an older version of Microsoft Word. The Mail Merge feature used to be very easy on the old Word. The new version, however, is very confusing and difficult to use. It is much less user friendly, and much more time consuming. Though I tried to have HELP walk me through it, I still cannot figure out how to use the Mail Merge Feature. Very frusturating.

I downloaded the full file version Office XP service pack because I don't have a disc for the original Office XP Small Business that I use. It still won't install, telling me I have to install the CD. Also, I cannot access my excel files without it telling me I need the CD. What do I need to do? Thanks.

can I remove Office 2000 after installing Office 2003?

Postby SXZhbmhvZQ » Fri, 04 Nov 2005 02:45:01 GMT

Having recently installed Office 2003, I still have Office 2000 on my machine
taking up valuable drive space.
Can I remove 2000 without affecting 2003? If so, do I simply use WinXP's
"Remove software" function, or do I need to do it in another way?
Quick answers will be most gratefully received!
Thanks a lot

1.Problems Removing Office 2000 and Installing Office 2003

Hi,

I thought this would be easy but it seems not. Currently I have a Domain
Network install of Office 2000 running the apps off the network mapped drive
O:\

I want to install Office 2003 running off the Local Harddrive from
\\server\share.

I have created a Custom MST using the Resource Kit for 2003. I set it to
remove all previous office applications and run all Office 2003 from the
computer.

All 'seemed' fine. However, when I run it at the command line
"\\server\office\setup.exe transforms=mysettings.mst" it runs the installer
and the "Ticked" box is "Upgrade". If I just click "Next" it shows as
basically an Upgrade of what I already have with everything Running from the
Network. None of my MST Settings are listed there. If I go back and click
"Custom" it then shows the MST settings.

I deployed the Office through a Software Installation Group Policy with the
MST applied and although it installed, it did exactly what I said above and
"Upgraded" Office 2000 running Office 2003 from the Network instead of
Installing as I had Specified in the MST.

Is there anything I can do about this without having to logon and uninstall
Office 2000 on 1500 machines or doing it manually?

Thanks

2.Can Office 2000 and Office 2003 co-exist and how do I remove 2000

When I use the Office Updates prog on the Microsoft Site to update Office
2003 I always get updates for Word/Excel.... 2000 in addition to the 2003
ones.
Did the 2003 installation NOT overwrite the 2000 Office?

3.Remove Office 2000 (French) so as to install Office 2000 (English)

I have a problem. One of my users would like me to uninstall the French
version Office 2000 and then install the English version. However, when I do
the "switch", the Office Shortcut bar and Language setting still comes up with
the French info. What is the recommended process of completely clearing out
Office 2000 (French) and replace it with Office 2000 (English), without doing
a reinstall of Windows?

4.installing office 2003 over office 2000

I have MS Office 2000 and thinking about getting MS Office 2003.

Does 2000 have to be uninstalled first?

How is 2003 installed on top of 2000?

5.Install Office 2000 with Office 2003 trial version

We purchased a new HP computer about 6 months ago with WINXP on it. It also
came with the Office 2003 trial software. On our old computer we had been
using Office 2000 Pro Ed. and wanted to transfer it to the new HP. We had
lost the product key code but was able to get another one from Microsoft by
providing the proof of purchase of the Office 2000 software. But everytime
we try to install the Office 2000 software on the new system with the product
key code code provided by Microsoft we get the "invalid key code .." error
message. Microsoft claims the key code is good and we must have a hardware
technical problem.

I am thinking that having the Office 2003 Trial software (although expired)
on the new system may have something to do with the problem. Is that
possible? We had been reluctant to uninstall it becuase if the Office 2000
software can't be installed we might have to purchase the 2003 version (which
isn't in our budget)

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks

Ron
