  • 1. Mario Bros games on a Palm Tungsten T5
Hello, I have just bought a T5 wqhich will mostly be used for Sat/Nav. It hasn't been delivered yet but I expect to get it within 7 days. I have also ordered the matching Navigation Companion kit so the Sat/Nav side should be sorted. I will also be using it for watching movies copied from my own DVDs. But here's the thing, I'd really like to be able to play the old Mario Bros games on it too. Not the Kart racing stuff but the one where the hero moves from left to right picking up points and avoiding being killed. Remember the ones? Now I'm not a techie whizz-kid by any stretch of the imagination so the first thing to ask is if it is possible? Secondly, what do I need to get to be able to run the game on a T5 and lastly, any advice on how to actually set it up would be appreciated. I understand there are things called emulators out there but I haven't got a clue what they are or how they work. Cheers, Steve. ps.... Can anyone suggest a game similar to "Civilization" for the Palm?
  • 2. Tungsten C won't turn on
I've had my Tungsten C for about 3 years. I keep it charged regularly and sync daily. This morning, however, the unit wouldn't turn on. I tried a soft reset... nothing. Then I tried a hard reset and still nothing. My 1 yr old dropped it on the sidewalk a few days ago and I thought "Oh, no!" but it continued to work after that. But now I'm wondering if perhaps the drop caused something to gradually go loose? Anyone else have a similar problem and know how to fix it? When I called Palm for support, they said it would cost $200 to repair and suggested I just buy a new one. Seems like a racket to me! Not to mention the fact that Palm doesn't even offer a unit with wifi and a built=in keyboard which I absolutely love. This has been a very sad day for me and my trusty Tungsten.
  • 3. Multi-segment background application
I have a background application, which has no UI whatsoever, that has unfortunately grown beyond the 64K segment limit. I need to figure out some way to call code accross segments, without being launched with sysAppLaunchCmdNormalLaunch. Specifically, I need to find a way to launch myself with globals, and not trigger any UI at all (i.e. SysAppUISwitch is not an option). I'm using Codewarrior 9.3, and targetting PalmOS 5.4, specifically the Treo 650. Here's what I understand: - You cannot call anything out of your first segment on a no-globals launch. - The above is true, no matter what magic you use in Codewarrior (e.g. expanded mode doesn't help). - You cannot call yourself using SysAppLaunch and pass sysAppLaunchFlagNewGlobals, as that will eat up an owner ID every time you do it. So, do I have any options at all here? Is there any way to get my app launched in a context where I can call other segments, short of SysAppUISwitch? Surely there is a way to do this. Thanks, Gary

How can i (if at all) upload my PalmVx ROM as a file to PC (back-up),
and then (if need be) flash it back into Palm.

TIA

@posting.google.com:

JackSprat does that, if you're willing to pay.

Well, I said you have to pay. Once it's on a card, it's easy enough to put
it on a PC.

Stan,

First, it was my fault to send my replay to your private address
rather then the group. Sorry.
Now concerning the problem, I checked JackSprat and it seems to be
exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. (Not sure I will go for it,
though, since I expected there were some readily available program
sitting among other stuff that came with the Palm.)

Not a problem. I never saw it, because I don't post a real email address
on newsgroups. Feel free to send anything you like to my listed address.
;-)
