Treo 650 and Outlook phone number formatting

  • 1. Palm map software
Having moved to an OS5 Palm Tungsten T5 I can no longer install Tom Tom CityMaps and wondered whether there are any alternatives. I need UK coverage and route planning but don't need any GPS capability. I have looked a Mapopolis but it was a bit flaky on opening maps from SD card. Are there any other worth looking at? • 2. Holiday (a.k.a Vacation) tracking software
Forgive another request for recommendations for an application, having been a Psion user for years I am unfamiliar with the best places to look for Palm software. In this case I have tried Palmgear, Versiontracker and Google with no success. I wondered if anyone can recommend a Palm application to track annual holiday. I could use Datebk5 but it would be easier if there was a simple app driven by a nice point 'n' shoot GUI. As there is Palm software for everything I guess there will be something out there. I have tried Day Off Pro and another (UK) application but neither quite worked for me. This will be run on a Tungsten T5 so it would be nice to make maximum use of the screen but other than that the application could be really simple and quick. • 3. Can a Palm access network shares?
I was reading about some PPC users who with Wifi could access network shares. Can the newer Palms do this or even access a network? I have an ancient Palm VIIx and no doubt it cannot do this. All it can do when it comes to networking is connect to my desktop via the serial port, and it used to be able to access email and the net when was alive. John ---- Leadership isn't about polls. • 4. Grafti question
I am using Palm OS 3.5.3. I've noticed that there are characters in the grafti help screens that are not on the onscreen keyboard. Some of the extended shift characters or whatever the technical name is, are hard to execute using grafti. I know grafti well, but I do have to go to my keyboard from time to time. How can I execute these characters? Is there a better improved onscreen keyboard via third party software? Thanks, John

Treo 650 and Outlook phone number formatting

Outlook 2003 stores the extension (or exchange, doens't know the exact
term, in german it's the Durchwahl) of a phone number with a leading
'x', e.g. as "+49 (69) 12345 x 678" but the Treo doesn't recognize this
sign and stops dialing after it - the number shrinks to "+496912345" and
is therefor unusable. This seems to be a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Here in the US, some corporate PBX (private branch exchange) systems
still require an operator to dial the extension. If the system allows
you to dial the extension, don't use "x". Use commas to pause if

Hi Bill,

the 'x' is automatically inserted by Outlook if the 'Extension' field of
the phone details form is used, it can't be changed by the user (e.g. in
a '-' that the Treo could handle).

Is it possible that this can be addressed through Control
Panel/Regional Options? Are you using an English/USA build of the
operating system?

I live in the US. When I need to dial an extension, I append it to the
first or last name and input it manually. I mainly do this for
conference calls that require a password.

I occasionally configure with the commas ( , ) for authenticating on my
PBX/Voicemail system. I don't like to key in numbers while driving.

It is alleged that Bill Marcum claimed:

My Treo 650 (Cingular, 1.17-CNG) does not recognize a pause in the
number. To get that effect, I have to use a speed-dial entry and put
the extension in the "Extra Digits" field to be sent on command.

I'm using a Treo 600 and it doesn't recognize the "x" either. I got around
that by using TakePhone which recognizes the "x" and allows me to dial it.

1.Outlook Treo 650 Palm HotSync OLERR lookup table

Where do I get advice on what these Outlook to Palm synchronize errors
Are they indicating errors in Outlook (which works) or the PDA (which
won't sync)?

HotSync operation started for donna on 12/21/05 19:54:07
Outlook Calendar
- Recovery Sync
Outlook Calendar synchronization failed

These were cut directly out of the PalmSource Outlook conduit HotSync
6.0.1 file:

The really frustrating thing about these messages is the hotsync used
to work on this new Verizon Treo650 Palm PDA cellphone and then stopped
all of a sudden. No matter how many times I reboot the Windows XP PC,
the PalmSource HotSync Manager 6.0.1 has been failing for more than a
week with these cryptic error codes above.

Is there a lookup table for these error codes?
Are they indicating Outlook errors (Outlook seems to work just fine) or
errors in the Palm PDA (which seems to work fine also)? It's just the
synchronization between the two that is failing. Contacts synchronize
just fine via the Treo 650 USB cable but the Outlook Calendar fails
every time (it used to work and I don't remember changing anything to
break it).

When I googled, I found someone suggested deleting the entire Outlook
profiles directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application
which didn't seem to solve the problem at all (I think I got even more
error codes when I pressed the HotSync button on the Treo 650 USB cable
but I don't remember because I didn't save the original set before
deleting the profiles directory).

The Outlook profiles directory reappeared with Outlook 2003 (which
seems to work fine throughout), and it re-created the following files:
donna_Outlook_profile.FAV 26 KB
donna_Outlook_profile.NK2 0KB
donna_Outlook_profile.srs 3KB

Do you know what these Outlook conduit Palm syncronize errors mean?

2.Treo 650 Outlook 2003 sync, datebook functions

A couple questions for you experts out there.
1. Anyone else having trouble syncing with Outlook 2003? Does PalmOne
have a plan to fix this?
2. Has anyone figured out a way to set the defaults on the datbook
function to allow "alarm on" to be set as a default for a datebook
event? (Treo 600 did this.)
3. Has anyone figured out what happened to the "Journal" function that
was present on the Treo600?
4. Or the "template" function that was a function on the Treo 600
5. And has anyone figured out how to set the "default event length" to
0? (Treo 600 did this.)

It seems to me that PalmOne rushed this phone out to the market before
it was ready to go and they may have cut out a number of useful
features also. (At least to me they were useful.) The memory problem
is inexcusable also and further evidence that this phone while
thoughtful and innovative has some very sloppy and unfinished elements
as well. Anyone have answers to the above questions or the general
statement please let say so...

3.Treo 650 Outlook Calendar Sync problems

I have a Treo 650, and I run a Outlook Exchange, on windows XP. This
configuration is the same for both home and work
I installed my hotsync application
I have problems syncronizing my calendar both ar home and at work.

1. I set the preference to syncronize my calendar
2. After I syncronize, I realize that on the registry, no activity has
been done on the calendar
3. When I look at the preferences, I realize that my instructions on
the Calendar have been overuled, and "someone" changed into "do nothng"
4. I have this problem both at home and at work

I called Palm, and they only offered to sell me some assistance. Then I
extorted that in the Knowledge library # 8985 there is my answer. In
reality this reference is inexhistend

4.Outlook Folders with Treo 650?

Had Treo 600. Was using Chapura Pocket Mirror professional to duplicate
the 15 contact folders in Outlook XP onto the Treo. Now upgrading to
Treo 650. The 600 came with a free version of Pocket Mirror that did
not support folders. The 650 does not come with Pocket Mirror at all. I
am wondering if the 650 Palm Desktop and Outlook sync software now
supports folders out of the box without the need for Pocket Mirror?
Basically I'd like to know if, when I sync Outlook to the 650 (with no
Pocket Mirror installed), will the contacts all go to the root folder,
or did Palm finally start supporting Outlook folders. I know that
Chapura has Pocket Mirror for the 650 now but if I can get folderf
support without it, so much the better.

Thanks in advance for any help!

5.Treo 650 Synch With Outlook And Time Zones

I am having problems with the automatic handling of time zones between
appointments I create in Outlook and where they reside in the datebook
on the Treo. I have verified the settings in the condiut are correct,
however, the times are always entered 1 hour earlier in the Treo than
in Outlook. I have the Daylight savings option checked in Outlook and
am wondering if this might be a possible source for the problem.

Any advice or resource would be appreciated. Thanks.
