  • 2. Inter process communication
Hello, This is a doubt regarding the implementation of the following scenario: I have a server running on one Windows Mobile 5.0 device. In another device we would be running the client. Now at the client end, we have a background process(Service) which will be constantly asking the server for updates. If the response is positive , we need to launch the main application from the service. Now the problem is, we have already established one connection(socket) with the server from the background service, We need to pass the same connected socket details to the main application and further continue with the processing on this socket. For this we tried using message queues for IPC. we passed the socket value from one process to another through message queues but sending fails in the second application. Now since the socket scope is defined in the first process space, it is possible we wont be able to use it in the second process. Can anybody guide us as to what approach should we use? or whether we are on the right track? Waiting for reply.. Thanks & Regards Veena
  • 3. "File as" contact display conflicts in WM6
I will create a new contact in Outlook OR on my Pocket PC and choose how to "file as" for the display in Contacts. Every so often the contact will change listing from: buiseness (first name, last name) to: last name, first name. Any takers on this problem?
  • 4. PPTP VPN Issues with MS Windows 2003 VPN Server and Windows Mobile (any variety)
Hi there, I am a frustrated would-be user of Windows Mobile devices. The problem lies in the fact that no matter the device, OS version, or carrier that I try (even Wi-Fi) - I cannot get a Windows Mobile device to connect to my company's PPTP VPN server. Or rather, they all show that the connection is made, but is immediately dropped after I try to connect to any internal web pages or use ActiveSync, etc. (FYI - I've tried connecting to my company's PPTP VPN using Macintosh OS X, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and an iPhone: all of them work great - only the Windows PocketPC / Mobile devices have issues). So, here is what I've tried so far: On AT&T (with various SIM card including that of a store manager): 1. The new Tilt (HTC TYTN II, a.k.a. 8925, a.k.a. Kaiser) - WM6 2. Siemens SX 66 - PPC2003 On Sprint: 1. Mogul. On T-Mobile: 1. Wing On every device, I was able to browse the Internet and set up the PPTP VPN. However, once the VPN was connected (at least according to the device), the connection was dropped as soon as I tried to go to a company Intranet page. Finally, I have spoken with my corporate IT dept. and they've said that the VPN is a MSFT 2003 PPTP VPN using MSCHAPv2 authentication, in strict mode (requiring all routing through that VPN for all traffic). Any thoughts? OR do Windows Mobile devices just not work with PPTP VPNs? Thanks, Eric
  • 5. Notes field in contacts in Outlook 2007 doesn't get synchronized correctly by Windows Mobile Device Center to SmartPhone 2003
Hi, The problem I encountered is: Notes field in contacts in Outlook 2007 doesn't get synchronized correctly by Windows Mobile Device Center to SmartPhone 2003, most of Notes fields of contacts in my Outlook 2007 store Simplified Chinese characters, but after the synchronization, all Notes of all contacts displayed on my SmartPhone 2003 are "????????", and those notes fields are displayed OK in Outlook 2007. Also, all other fields in contacts like First Name and Last Name in Chinese characters are displayed OK in both Outlook 2007 and SmartPhone 2003. The environment is: PC: Windows Vista Ultimate English version, the system locale is set to "English (United States)", the OS with all updates installed as of today. Outlook: Office Ultimate 2007 English version, all updates installed as of today Outlook PST File: "Personal Folders File" format Windows Mobile Device Center: English version, 6.1.6965 SmartPhone: Dopod 575 (SmartPhone 2003 SE), Language set to "US English", Locale set to "Chinese (PRC)". I guess this is a unicode support issue for that specific field (Notes) in Windows Mobile Device Center but I'm still not sure if it has anything to do with Outlook, any suggestions and help will be highly appreciated. Ipaq 2210 wants to connect to internet all the time

Postby Patrick Sieyes » Sun, 29 Feb 2004 20:43:24 GMT

My Ipaq ants to connect to the internet all the time,
irrespective of what I am doing. Suddenly a message pops
up saying: "Cannot connect - if you use a modem to
connect to your isp ensure it is inserted correctly...bla
bla"

I usually connect to the internet either through
bluetooth or infrared, with no problems.

But why does this pop up?

Your help is appreciated
Brgds

Is your Inbox set to automatically send and receive every X minutes?

Do you have journal bar installed? I've actually removed mine because
of the exact problem you have. Keeps popping up with the message and
I've found no way to remove it other than to remove journal bar from
my today screen. It's either that or some other program that needs to
update online.

If you have a POP mail account setup on the unit which is set to check mail every x mins then this could be the cause, make sure before you close the the inbox app that it is set to the Activesync account and that would stop it.

2.IPAQ 2210 - Connecting to the internet

Hi there,

I'm new to the world of PDA's and am thinking of buying one tonight, more
specifically IPAQ's 2210.

The thing that I don't understand is how to connect to the internet with
one? The 2210 has got bluetooth, infrared etc. I have a laptop which I use
to connect to the net using a dial up modem.

I'm just not sure how to do it. Can anyone shed some light on it?

3.iPAQ 2210 and T68i Internet Connection

I am unable to connect to the Internet with my 2210 and T68i via
Bluetooth and GPRS. I have managed to pair the two devices and even
get the T68i to connect remotely to the Internet using the 2210. The
problem comes when I launch Explorer on the 2210 I keep getting the
message "Unable to find page" no matter what URL I enter. I am in the
UK using the Orange Network. Both Orange and HP are unable to help, as
they have not yet geared up to providing support for Pocket PC 2003.
If any one managed to achieve an Internet connection, a step-by-step
guide on how to do it would be appreciated.

4.iPAQ 2210, WLAN and Internet

I have an iPAQ 2210 and a D-Link Air DCF-660W CF-Wi-Fi card. After
installing the beta drivers for PPC2003, the machine automatically finds
every network around, and things seem fine. My problem is to access the
Internet. Simply starting IE (which the help files indicate) is not getting
me online. Neither can I access my inbox or use Messenger. I feel I have
tried any setting now, and hope someone know how to fix this. Any help out
there? I need it!
