  • 1. one additional question about newsgroup readers for PPC
In addition to the question I just asked about Individual.net, are there any newsgroups readers for the PPC that would allow me to have multiple newsgroup servers....i.e., when i am at work with my PPC, plug into the settings of work ISP newsgroup, when i am at home with my PPC, plug into the settings of my home ISP newsgroup server???? Seems that QUSnetsoft only allows me to enter one newsgroup server, but that is not really how a PPC is used---we bring it to different sites. m.
  • 2. Frequent soft-resets and occasional hard-reset ones too :-(
Hi. I'm having a problem with the ipaq 2210 (it has PPC 2003). It frequently soft-resets without me doing so, and occasionally it hard-resets leading to loss of everything. Soft-resets I would say happen daily, often more than once daily, even more than twice, and hard-resets happen every few weeks or sometimes more often. Is this something to be expected and lived with? or is there something I should be doing to correct it? should I be looking into something like that pocket mechanic application? Other than that it's working fine. I now backup daily to an SD card and also backup to the computer every time I activesync. I also store my documents, excel and word, to the SD card so I don't lose them, but with the disadvantage that they don't activesync with the computer. Is there a way for my documents that are stored on the SD to be activesynced with the computer so I can work on them on the desktop without having to move all into and out of SD card or leaving my ipaq connected (and yes, other than a card reader, I guess what i'm asking for is an SD activesync solution or something like that)? Alternatively, is there a backup solution that would allow me to backup documents from the my document folder on the PPC to the SD card as they are modified rather than daily? thanks.
  • 3. how safe is xcpuscalar?
Does xcpuscalar have potential to harm an ipaq 2210, or any for that matter? I mean either in its use to slow a cpu from 400mhz to 100mhz in situations in which i would just be reading, or others in which it's used to speed up a 400mhz processor to over 500mhz or its max possible. Also, does the 100mhz setting instead of the default 400mhz actually increase battery life? has anyone had stability issues with it? I'm trying it and found the automatic setting, in which it chooses speed according to cpu load, according to settings you choose, to not work quite as well. Have you guys had similar experience? does the automatic setting work well? thanks
  • 4. How about V600 with iPAQ 4150?
I just got a Cingular V600, with bluetooth, and am trying to use it as a modem with my iPAQ 4150. I made a bluetooth connection between the two, and got the iPAQ to make the V600 dial my AT&T account phone number, but got the error message "no modem at this number" but when I dial the AT&T number manually, I hear a modem tone. Any thoughts? How can Pocket Explorer be configured to display chinese
characters?

Would like to put emergency addresses, hotel information,
etc. in Pocket PC and display. The HTML pages display
properly on laptop.

Thanks,

You should be able to install a Chinese truetype font and make your webpages
in UTF-8 code page.

Or you can use one of the following third party Chinese platforms:
Monster Chinese (www.mactiontech.com),
PocketKnife (www.gismosoft.com), or CE-Star (www.mobem.com).

3.Problem on displaying Chinese characters

I'm a newbie in pocket PC application development. I'm trying to do a
Simplified Chinese application for a pocket pc. But I couldn't display
Chinese character correctly. The development tools I used are:

eVC++4.0 + SP3
Windows Mobile 2003 SDK for pocket PC
Emulator images for pocket PC (Simplified Chinese)

I tried to display a constant string _T("") in an edit control and type
some Chinese in a label of a dialog box but neither of them works. But
Chinese characters can be displayed correctly in the edit control if I type
it in run time. What is the cause of the problem?

Thank you for your kind attention.

Fingle
