I'm hoping this is possible in Powerpoint: I'm running a VBscript multiple times concurrently to merge .ppt files together into new presentations. I've got it running ok up to a point, but because Powerpoint is a single instance application, all these scripts need to keep track of which new/blank presentations they idividually create (i.e. is it supposed to be writing to presentation1 or presentation2 etc.), otherwise they all just end up merging their files into the active presentation. Basically I need to get the index number of a new presentation ("currentPresentation") right after it is created: Dim currentPresentation PPTobj.Presentations.Add(True) ..insert method for --> currentPresentation = index of new presentation PPTobj.Presentations(currentPresentation).Slides.InsertFromFile "somefile.ppt", 0 If anyone could help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it! - Tristan

  • 4. PPT 2003: Lost timing feature in Custom Animation?
I have just started using PowerPoint 2003 and it looks like a feature is gone. I was able to time the appearance of objects on a slide by setting the number of seconds after the previous object's appearance. It looks like there are a lot more possibilities for effects now but I can no longer set that timing. Am I just missing it somewhere? Thanks for any help.

I was wondering if there is a way to make a song play through the entire presenation not just on one slide? I can the music to play on one slide but it ends as I go to the next slide. Is there a way to do this without breaking up the music file for each slide? Any help will be great!!!

Prevent "flashing" redraw of shapes on side during design mode?

Postby Alan Cobb » Thu, 16 Jun 2005 04:50:54 GMT

Hi,

I have a diagram on a slide made from basic shapes.
It consists of several small rectangles on top of a larger
rectangle. When I first navigate to the slide in design
mode it flashes many times as apparently the overlapping
rectangles cause each other to be cyclically redrawn.
Changing the "grouping" and "ordering" options does
not help. This redraw flashing does not happen in
slide-show mode.

Is there any trick to preventing the flashing in design
mode?

This is PP 2002.

Thanks,
Alan Cobb

This is usually corrected by bumping the video acceleration down a notch or
two.

Hi Bill,

Bumping down the acceleration did the trick.
Actually, I also found that there was a secondary cause
in my case. I had a lot of other applications open, including
two VMWare virtual machines running. Once I shut all
those other programs down the flashing in PP design
mode went away even with full acceleration turned
back on.

Thanks,
Alan Cobb

1.stage displays in "Outline" mode not "Design" mode

My stage displays all objects in "outline" mode and I can't find where to change the setting to "Design" so I can see the layout in the colors in which I design. The flash movie has the correct colors display, but the design stage show all objects as outlined objects.

Please help this is very distracting.

2.Redraw flashing problem with ListView in virtual mode.

I am using the .Net 2.0 ListView control in virtual mode and am having some
unsightly re-draw/flashing problems. The listview control works quite well
in this mode when displaying and scrolling thousands of items. The re-draw
problem occurs when I insert a new item into the list. In this case I update
my data structures and then call the "VirtualSize" property on the control.
At this point three things can happen:
- Desired behavior - the listview redraws once (I see one WM_ERASEBKGND and
one WM_PAINT message each).
- Bad behavior - the listview redraws erases and redraws a few times and
causes unsightly flashing.
- Really bad behavior - the listview redraws many times (I see man
WM_ERASEBKGND and WM_PAINT messages), causing really bad re-draw experience.
The worst part is that a lot of the drawing is done outside the normal .Net
and windows message loop ... I intercept and eat WM_ERASEBKGND messages, the
BeginUpdate and EndUpdate calls are being ignored and I don't do any owner
drawing during this time.

Interestingly I can make the desired behavior occur if I select or sometimes
select and then clear items in the list. So this appears to be the ListView
control trying to restore the list position during the call to "VirtualSize".

Is there anyway I can fix or work around this problem? Ideally I want to be
able to a) change the list view virtual size, b) restore previous selections,
c) possibly change the scroll position, all with only a single redraw of the
list.

Thanks for any help.

I have embedded expresviewer files (.dwf), this program is a read only viewwer for AutoCad files, into a PowerPoint presentation
The files open up fine, although went the object is loading, any text object or embeded object on the slide turns white until the file is completely loaded. Is there a setting In PowerPoint that has to be adjusted to redraw the screen smoothly

Thank You.
