Hi, I have a problem with a dimension attribute in SSAS 2005. I changed the values for "AttributeHierarchyEnabled" and "AttributeHierarchyVisible" to "true" for an attribute in a dimension. Then I deployed the solution to the Analysis Server and processed the dimension with FULLPROCESS. Checking which attributes the server is processing I see that the values for attribute were sourced. Now I can see the attribute in the browser for the dimension in the Analysis Services project, but not in Management Studio nor Reporting Services. I cannot access the attribute by MDX. I restarted all the stuff but I could not get it to work. I need help. Stefoon
  • 2. To use or not to use SCOPE statement?
Hello, I cannot find consistent description on when to use SCOPE statement in my calculations. I am talking here about calculations tab in cube editor. Lets say I can write following Version 1: SCOPE(Descendants([Date].[Date].CurrentMember, [Date].[Date].[Month]); This = 1; END SCOPE; Or: Version2: Descendants([Date].[Date].CurrentMember, [Date].[Date].[Month]) = 1; Is there any advantage for Version1 vs Version2? Thank you, Vidas Matelis
  • 3. Urgent Help needed
Hi all, I have an SQL2000 Analysis Services box running SP4. I am attempting to connect to the Server through Excel 2003 and I am getting an error of: Unable to open connection. Cannot load databases; version may not be valid. Connection to the server is lost. If I log on as Administrator it works fine. If I log in as a user i get the above error. I am using OLAP provider 8.0. I have changed the permissions on the user so that they have access to the cube in Analysis Manager so that isnt the issue. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  • 4. AMO and resyncing BI Studio Project
I have a Analysys Services BI Studio project. I also am creating KPI objects via AMO to automate the generation of these objects. Question is - how do I keep my project and AS database in sync? If I re-deploy my project, I will overlay objects in the AS database. So, what is the best way to accomplish this? Is there a way to "sync" my project with the database? Thanks!

Variance to the stock problem

Postby Galactico » Sat, 27 Aug 2005 19:02:52 GMT

Hello,

I have a variant of the common stock problem.
I have a cube to present the number of apples per store at any time,
thus containing the time dimension (year, month, day), store dimension
(city, store) and a measure Nr of Apples.

The mdx for the calculated measure Nr of Apples is:

(Tail(Filter(Descendants([Time].[Gregorian].CurrentMember,[Day]),Not
([Measures].[Nr of Apples]) =NULL),1).Item(0),[Measures].[Nr of
Apples])

However, with the following data:
"city" "store" "date" "nr of apples"
F A 10-08-2005 10
F B 10-08-2005 5
F C 10-08-2005 15
F A 17-08-2005 15
F B 17-08-2005
F C 17-08-2005 10

something goes wrong. When I look at the nr of apples for city a on the
year level of the time dimension it shows 25 (being the last known
situation) correctly. However, when i drill down to store level it
shows A: 15 (correct), B: 5(incorrect!!), C: 10 (correct).

So what the formula does is taking the last known value for which it
has data. But in this case i'd like it to take the value for the last
known date.

Does anybody have a solution??
Thnx in advance.

Carlos

Try

(Tail(Filter(Descendants([Time.[Gregorian].CurrentMember,[Dy]),([Measures].[Nr
of Apples])>0 ),1).Item(0),[Measures].[r of
Apples])

That gives the same result. The problem is that it shouldnt take the
10-08-2005 data for store B (being the last non empty value) but the
17-08-2005 data, being the date of the overall (all stores combined)
last non empty value.

What i understand is if you use Tail and Filter it always shows the
last nonempty values you need to change the formula us Coalsce empty
MDX function with current member of time

Maybe this is it:

Tail(Filter( [Day].Members ,Not IsEmpty( ( [Measures].[Nrof
Apples],[Store].[All Stores] )))).Item(0)

All,

Always use suffix {set}.item(0).item(0) to turn a set into a member, using
only .item(0) will turn the set into a tuple, which may work sometimes, but
not always.

4.Variance and statistics

Hi!
I was wondering if it could be possibile to work with data in this
way:
suppose we have sales data (productid, customerid, saledate), I would
like to calculate how much time elapses between two sales to the same
customer (in order to obtain variance, standard deviation, and so
on...).
I've tried with iterative stored procedures, but it's not so feasible:
maybe I would like to go on using this data as a dimension in analysis
services...
Thanks in advance.

5.Linear Regression variance estimates

I've found that the variance estimates for parameters from MS Linear Regression don't match the standard, textbook variance estimates for linear regression.

A good example of this is the Fuel Consumption data from Weisberg's "Applied Linear Regression" text. MS Linear regression will produce regression parameter estimates that match exactly with the text (or with what you'd get from a standard stats program). But the variances for the individual parameter estimates are just wrong, with no clear pattern that I could find.

I'd like to be able to make predictions based on using this data mining module, and make uncertainty estimates about those predictions. However, these bogus variance estimates leave me having to do some of the computations myself. Combined this with the fact that the variance - covariance between parameter estimates is not exposed, and it has me thinking that Analysis Services is definitely not the tool to use.
